Im on the fedi doin fedi things.

  • Health insurance here. They were the biggest kid on the block as far as information gathering.

  • Thry want us to subscribe to computing.

  • I think we are too small to care about something like this. I can see a "bad" instance taking people off forever. But it would be nice to have for certain to have more people spread out.

  • I just pointed them over to mastodon.social, pixelfed, and some others. Andvi dont tell them its fediverse, its just another site that anyone can spin up. They can dig if they want to. One out of 4 initially stay. Some come back.

What helps is friends and family on the platform.

  • We got tired of meshtastic so we build some with Wi-Fi HaLow and other Wifi stuff.

Meshtastic/core are ok as a hobby, but after doing it for a good number of years, im just tired of the downtime, strange issues with heltek and the very small amount you can actually send.

Its fun and we have got a number of houses set up. Its not too hard in our area.

  • Locally we have been setting up some mesh systems. Its been fun work. One of the best things about it is:

    1. All traffic is human.
    2. No survalance

Its in the early phases but its been a sucess so far.

  • This artist has it rough in particular.

  • Unfortunately this is mostly an AI project :(

  • Yep its not definitive. The only real data from that article was from cloudflare which showed some differing numbers. But thats all. I personally think we will know more once we have all the other trackers out there pull independent numbers.

Articles coming out seem to be what people "feel" like it is. Which isnt real data haha. All we can definitively say is that Linux usage is up from multiple trackers (stat counter/Cloudflare/Steam/etc...) but time will tell how much.

  • Either way, we will see after this month if this is a trend or something of a statistical anomaly.

Theres a lot of articles claiming this and that. The only thing we can definitively say is Linux usage seems up or at least browsers are reporting more Linux across the board. Be careful of people who are saying "its all AI" or "its all algorithms" etc...as its just one month.

  • It was fun in college and a bit after. You dont lose anything learning it.

I personally like python more for scripting an MVP out really quick. Ocaml has some nice algorithmic stuff and I remember a UI library that made it fun.

  • Agreed. Its federated. Let instances do thier thing. It gives us more options not less.

  • Most of it is. Theres a good portion on cloudflare. Linux its over 4% on desktop marketshare when filtering. Which sounds correct. But the rest of the article is just as you say.

I wonder if cloudflare includes chrome os, specialty linux distros, ect... are pulling the numbers one way or another?

  • Welcome!

  • I have a couple. My convern is getting all the packages on top of something happends. Like htop and such.

  • Sounds good let me know how it goes. Its been 2 years for us and while the initial projects were somewhat vibe coded. Theres just more software doing things so ironically it means much more work for us.

  • We went through 1 months worth of tokens in 5 days. It was a 4k bill lol.

  • At a job i waa at, we attempted to integrate with a union. When we attempted to put the material onto google drive it would lock us out. It was consistant.

  • Its all good, its great it exists. You too!
