  • I've heard some fascinating propaganda about Americans, but this is new. What about the colder parts of Europe or Asia? Why only North America? Does this only occur above a certain latitude? If you move from a warmer climate to a cooler climate, does your body naturally adapt and how long does it take? With global warming, will everyone suddenly start shitting more and think they're dying? The sewage systems will explode because they won't be able to adapt to millions of people suddenly shitting daily instead of weekly.

  • Hand washing dishes sometimes does the trick. The extended amount of time in the soapy water with soap that's meant to cut grease, combined with the movement of actually washing the dishes will often help break down the dirt and push it out.

  • I have discord but I only use it to talk to a relative who doesn't like traditional texting and because some of the help guides for mods are solely on discord.

    I had an Instagram and a Facebook years ago and deleted them. Recently I realized I was missing out on updates, information, and job postings related to both my job and my hobbies that are only posted on mainstream social media, so I made an Instagram that so far has zero posts, not even a profile picture, and I don't have it installed on my phone, only on a tablet that stays at home and doesn't have personal info stored on it. I'm still missing out on a lot that's only posted on Facebook but the amount of dread I have when I think about going back into that cesspool has so far kept me away.

    No, the average lifespan was like 35 back in the day. 40 year olds weren't some rare wrinkled old person, the average was affected by the extremely high childhood mortality. If you could survive the first few years of your life your chances of surviving the next 60 were pretty good.

  • Like anywhere from -15 to -4 C (around 5-25 F). I also keep it around 15 C (60 F) in my apartment to keep heating costs lower so it doesn't need to get super warm to keep my thermostat from kicking on.

  • I love firing up my PC and gaming on cold winter nights. A well placed fan or two and I can spread it through my entire apartment and the heat won't kick on all night. Ends up saving me money, my heater costs way more than my PC to run.

Whether it's ocean water, creek water, water on trees in the woods, spring rain, summer rain, fall rain (they all have different scents), or the smell of rain from miles away mixed with ozone from summer storms, even lightly chlorinated pool water can smell good in the right circumstances.

    That and my cats fur. He always either smells like clean laundry, even if he's been nowhere near any laundry, or if it's a windy day and he's been sitting at the window he smells like fresh air.

  • Far Horizons - Skyrim Soundtrack. And yes, it's simultaneously chill and makes me want to go stand on top of a mountain and gaze into the distance moodily.

    I have a collection of video game soundtracks that I keep running at a quiet volume pretty much 24-7 for my cats because they have separation anxiety and I'm gone a lot. Skyrim, Oblivion, all 3 Witcher games, Stardew Valley, Terraria, Baldurs Gate 3, a couple of the Assassins Creed games, and a couple others are in there. Currently I have over 1000 songs in my main playlist that I run, but I have way more soundtracks that I don't have in that playlist.

  • Man, I was raised super conservative in a town on the east coast. Now I'm a leftist. The distaste of undereducated, poor, rural people breaks my heart. These people are some of the hardest workers in the country and so much of our society relies on their labor. There's no reason to look down on them. I hate the ignorance and conservative views, but when you've been fed propaganda your entire life and your community is full of like minded people it's really hard to break out of it. I don't get why leftists don't try harder to reach them. Yes, it's hard, because those beliefs are deep rooted, but some people can be educated. I've talked to people that say they won't talk to people with super conservative or harmful religious beliefs because "there's no changing them". My response to that is always that you don't have to argue or be hostile, but I was raised very conservative and if no one ever presented me with different viewpoints, gently challenged my beliefs, or educated me on facts that were hidden from me, I never would have started doing the thinking and the research I needed to change my worldview. I'd probably be a die-hard MAGA tradwife right now instead of being a single woman with a career who is also one of the most left leaning people most Americans will meet IRL.

  • I've been working on making connections and trying to spend time with people. I definitely don't sit around at home and hide away. Friendships also don't just happen out of thin air, and I don't have any yet.
