Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • Real news is often buried

  • I’m reasonably sure the article was AI generated then edited by a human into some art that has nothing to do with programming

  • Software patents… under some circumstances this would cripple many small USA companies, or legalize protection rackets where they must pay money

  • At the time it filled a hole in technology: it was better than bash scripts. It’s also an ancestor programming language, influencing dozens of other technologies, even if only to avoid the missteps.

All that stuff we see as wrong today was new and shiny earlier, with great promise. Perl had to exist to inspire future programmers to never do that again. And quite a few things that were nice was made from it

It really was not that bad as a language, though. If you like lots of two character global variables with the first character always being a punctuation mark

  • Perl was the third computer language I learned, after basic and pascal. I will always have fun thinking of the bar hopping and being on drugs. Wait…

I get so confused about what scrambled my brain. Are there 12 step programs for Perl ?

  • Oop is the worst form of programming, except for all the others.

  • The thugs never really did mention the new checks to prevent fraud, did they?

  • “By clicking the ok button to activate this (critically important) site, you agree to allow us to make suggestions to the auto AI sales on your behalf”

  • I was imagining this not as an isolated event but a statistically small failure doing normal business practices of the future.

And chargeback against Google or Microsoft causes account cancellation.

What you said makes sense for this year.

  • My imagination thinks that in an AI shopping future, anyone who reads an article similar to this automatically buys a Micky Mouse plushie.

Did not want to ? That easy to fix: please go to your settings to turn off auto-shopping. Refunds work too, just ship it back

  • I do computer programming, mostly on stuff the ai coding tools totally fail at; when I saw how much these same tools are pushed by large companies, I felt contempt .

That, and I studied neural networks in grad school, quite a few years ago. The current AI stuff do not awe me

  • It was a sub-standard prosecution

  • “The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones”

  • I asked computer if I should read the article, it said no. Am I in an abusive relationship?

That is ridiculous, clearly. I’ll use mainstream search engine, tailor made to my needs, to make sure it cannot happen

  • So a programmer goes to a code doctor. And he complains "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." The doctor says, "Then don't do that!

  • Very cool, scary and amazing

  • I just want to also say thank you for using the þorn. It’s a lovely letter that had an unjust fate, and it’s nice to see it in the wild

  • I think microservices are cool, but silly. It’s rare when you actually need them.
