Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Politics centered around promoting use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • The story how they got to be a minority is an epic story of mismanagement, corruption and insanity that stretches over many decades.

There is nothing wrong with free tacos, but it’s like polishing a mountain high turd

  • Still USA owned

  • Finally saw an image of the perpetrator, after all these years

  • I wish

  • The chances are that Musk will never see punishment, officially or unofficially. No courtrooms, no vigilantes, not even bad luck or bad karma.

  • It’s the same thing as other social media and why people stay on them

  • It’s a bit random which laws they still obey

  • Hopefully I am grandfathered in

  • “The non WiFi versions cost more and are not supported by most insurance.”

    • from the future
  • Surely there will not be a repeat after happening dozens of times earlier in the last 2,000 years? People are more civilized now..

  • More fuel for change later, not sure what kind of change or if it will be bad or good.

But a lot of potential social energy is being stored up and it had to go somewhere later!

  • It’s still early days, most likely many years later it will be both worse and better than is feared by me

  • A hundred years ago most food was grown a days walk away from a person. With no Diesel production or distribution, which some flairs knock out, there is no warehouse refrigeration.

Even with reserves, there are spare parts drying up. Trucks, ships and planes need constant work.

Some areas would get by, grains and beans can be moved without all that. Probably a huge percentage would survive. Barely

  • Plenty of good journalists have worked there, often with high ideals. But that is not the whole picture. The NYT is soaked with blood and poverty for all the other things it has done. Almost everything we read as bad in history has had its proponents or motivators or mitigators working in the same hallways

  • The NYT has issues going back 7 generations, it’s not like it started to go downhill recently

  • The people who are worth something are already interested in the subject and have taught themselves more than is in the curriculum. AI will not change that.

  • I read some books by Alice Miller that discussed some childhoods of authoritarian rulers and they were all of unloved. They had not one adult stick up for them, be their advocate or helper, during their childhood years.

Many of us as children have been unwanted or unloved by our caregivers. Most of us had at least one adult: an uncle, grandmother, teacher etc, who truly tried to help at least once.

What the monsters in history had in common is an absence of evidence of even that happening for them. And their revenge as adults was terrible.

  • I have to stay with jetbrains because my particular poison is not really supported that well by vscode and eclipse intimidates me more than I am inconvenienced out by my current editors.

But I would jump ship and try new editors

  • Having used/fought/loved and cursed the products for years, I am quite familiar with how amazingly complex and wonky these things are.

And they just rammed the AI on in a fundamental level. And did it after loosing a lot of talent. And being effectively a Russian company, had to deal with that earthquake, moving and losing people.

Honestly grateful still works as code editors
