  • If anyone doubts this, keep in your head what your idea of a British accent is, then go and find some vids of people talking in the Black Country accent. The old black and white videos are the best - its thought to be the nearest surviving accent from 'Old' English.

  • You're asking individuals why groups might display certain characteristics or opinions?

So, in my opinion, I could not care less what someone's religion is - they are entirely welcome to whatever it is they believe, or whatever variant of the parent mythology they believe in respect of Abrahamism. Lots of theistically religious people have made significant contributions to science over the last few hundred years.

But what I do take issue with and am vocally against is when religions or religious individuals assume that their particular one is the only 'right' one and they try and manipulate or outright force those who are not part of that religion to obey their beliefs. This comes in the form of laws and law-making institutions mostly.

I live in a country where Muslims make up a very low percentage of the population and therefore they have little to no impact on how I choose to live. Christians on the other hand have a very large influence on the laws and institutions where I am so that's where the majority of my protesting lies when it comes to religions. If the populations were reversed, so would be my protest.

  • I have read it before but a very long time ago and I think a lot of the societal points passed me by at that younger age. I'm definitely enjoying re-reading it with a more mature eye.

  • A.glass of wine with you Sir!

  • Hornblower is OK. I enjoy some of it but O'Brian has a knack for humour and tragedy thats mostly absent in the Hornblower series.

  • Favourites include Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series, Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall trilogy, Susanna Clarke's Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell, Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings series, Ursula K Le Guin's Hainish cycle.

    Currently reading Le Guins Dispossessed.

  • Resist. Join a protest, help out with a campaign or org, pushback when you see it online. Everything, no matter how big or how small counts. It increases the net good in the world and it also helps your own mental health.

  • I use Metro (link goes to f-droid) which does something with lyrics. I don't use that feature so I'm not sure if it searches for them or just displays them if they're embedded in the file.

Good player though, doesn't look like it escaped from the noughties. Local files only, no streaming.

  • First paragraph I knew :)

Second paragraph was news to me - thank you!

  • I don't know enough about how lemmy (or any fedi software come to that) differentiates between the two or even that it did to be honest - isn't an instance tied to a domain?

  • As an atheistic Satanist, ceremony and ritual matters. They can be used to mark events or share community and the science behind their benign effect is substantial.

They don't have to be long and drawn out. The collective I'm with (not CoS or TST) offer unbaptisms to help those who might have theist trauma for example and those last just a few minutes. Its what they can do that matters, not how long or expensive they are.

  • Looks like I'm uninstalling that browser then. Jesus.

  • Oligarchs, frustrated with dealing with their political sockpuppets, start just buying countries.

  • You're measuring 'success' by quantity not quality, oblivious to the fact that 95% of that quantity of content is bot-driven ragebait.

The people here have who successfully managed the transition from Reddit never denied there was some good content on Reddit, they just got sick of having to wade through a river of shit to get to it.

If your Lemmy/PieFed experience so far is not what you hoped - make your own place with your own rules. Literally no one can stop you.

  • I switched to Keepass flavours for desktop and Android and use syncthing (desktop) and syncthing-fork (android) to keep the db synced - works perfectly so far.

As for the reason - same as you OP.

  • I'm not sure Jack Nicholson can only play themselves but he does seem to get cast as the unhinged character quite a lot.

  • Fork it, carry on with being FOSS for now, develop a few killer features that everyone will love that would take a small FOSS team years to develop. When it becomes the industry standard, make it closed source. A year later start charging for it.

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

    Looking for Castopod opinions/experiences
