  • So they're saying the cause/purpose of consciousness is to reduce all the input data into a way to communicate with other humans via speech? Weird. That also makes the strange assumption that only humans, or beings that need to communicate, would have consciousness.

It seems fairly reasonable to suppose that any organism with sensory inputs that can act independently (perceive its environment and interact with it) would have to have some kind of consciousness to operate through. IOW to interpret the input signals and form a kind of mental model out of them. Regardless of how simple or complex that consciousness may be or whether communication might be involved.

  • Not really, read up on Kaczinsky's motivations, see his manifesto. He was targeting symbols of the new techno-industrial system, what they did in their jobs, not based on their personal lives.

  • This guy's associations with epstein and tump came years after the bombing.

  • Or maybe getting blown up did something to his brain.

edit: strange, they upvote when someone says Fetterman turned repub because of stroke brain damage, but downvote when I speculate he likes trump/epstein because of bomb brain damage. What's the difference?

  • These are the first waves of people with integrity being uprooted.

Oh, we're way past the first wave.

  • The Dems are in the minority in the Senate. That's the whole reason why Alito would retire before the midterms, while Repubs still have the majority and have the votes to confirm a replacement.

They must be worried Dems could win the majority in the midterms and would then take control in January and be able to stop a replacement if he waits until then to retire.

  • If only these people had figured it out after his first term. Oh wait, they weren't harmed personally in his first term.

If someone said, "I was dumb, I didn't know he was going to cut off aid to starving people, didn't know he was going to send masked thugs into the streets to beat, kill, kidnap and disappear innocent people, didn't know he was going to start wars, didn't know he was going to betray all our allies and destroy any remaining drop of goodwill toward the US in the world, ... etc"

Then I'd say, "yes, you were dumb, very fucking dumb, exceedingly dumb, but welcome to humanity. Some things are permanently ruined because you were so fucking dumb but now let's start picking up the pieces and try to create a better system than the one that allowed someone like trump to gain so much power."

But it's never that. It's always, "I didn't know he was going to hurt MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

  • “It’s okay to be wrong. You made a mistake, it was a bad choice, but it’s not the end of the world."

    Uhm about that ...

  • $20s. Anything higher, some places might not want to give change for them unless you're paying an amount close to the denomination of the bill.

  • The money is to whoever trump wants to give it to for whatever reason with zero accountability. It doesn't matter whether any Jan 6ers get any of it, it's 100% illegal theft of taxpayer money by trump.

  • Ooh, interesting angle. Though I'm not confident Dems would muster up enough spine to do that (or that some wouldn't break away and vote with repubs), but yeah, repubs probably wouldn't want to take that chance.

  • It's hard to resist. :)

  • OK ... but my post was only about predicting when Mangolini will no longer be POTUS.

  • Shall we place bets on when he will no longer be in office, for any cause - illness, death, expulsion, whatever.

My prediction is gone at least by the end of March 2027, maybe Feb. I think in the case of expulsion (or forced 'resignation') --which requires the repubs to choose since dems don't have enough power, that would be the date they would wait for. After the midterms and swearing in of the new congress. It can't be earlier than that if they (Thiel, etc) want Vance to qualify for 2 more full terms after this partial one.

If forced out by health reasons it's a lot harder to predict. Usually with these types the sheer evil force is enough to keep the heart pumping longer than the average mortal, even if the brain withers away. But like everyone else here, I check the headlines with fingers crossed each morning.

  • Oh good grief. So some of them don't like his Iran deal, that's not 'turning on him'. They would all still 100% vote for him and will vote for whoever he tells them to, as we've been seeing in the repub primaries. They'll still fall for any scam he throws at them and are perfectly happy to have their taxpayer dollars go to billionaires and grifters while their own benefits are dismantled and their rights taken away.

  • Blatantly illegal and unconstitutional taxpayer-funded slush fund for his pals, while he continues unfairly investigating everyone who ever crossed him or that he doesn't like for any reason.

  • True, and I'll take it. However it happened, let it keep happening. I hope he continues voting against everything trump wants and against every trump nominee for anything, and do anything he can do to stymie that pig. And I hope the other repubs trump has successfully primaried out will do the same. Plus there's more primaries today and more trump revenge endorsements against the incumbents, so those numbers may increase. Let's go.

  • In terms of US History, Abraham Lincoln, by far. What a completely different country this would be today. Or at least would have had a good chance to be.
