  • Yep, the only reason I say they'll more likely just threaten him with it to make him "voluntarily" step down is that his followers would rebel against Vance if he outright power ousts him with the 25th.

    But I think he (actually they, the whole cadre that are running things) will go ahead and actually invoke it if trump refuses to cooperate. It'll just take more work--either a propaganda effort of video clips, rumors, leaks of "doctor reports" and "off-camera incidents", etc. to convince his cult that he really is unable to continue, or more likely something might just "unfortunately happen" to him. They just have to make sure the magats don't smell a rat and turn on them.

    Oh, and the reason to wait until beginning of next year is so Vance will be able to run for two more full terms.

  • I predict Vance, et. al. will be doing an effective 25nd Amendment move after the midterms--not needing to actually invoke it but threatening trump with it if he doesn't play along with their plans. There are lots of ways to manipulate him with both carrots and sticks. Assuming repubs keep their majority in Congress, (see the next paragraph), trump will conveniently have a health crisis that forces him to "retire" next year. Of course he might go ahead and have one without help anyway, but this is assuming he doesn't.

    The wild card is how the midterms will go, which I can't predict. Will they be free and fair "normal" elections? I seriously doubt it. Lots of red states have one or two blue House seats. Repub-majority red states have been working on stacking election boards and judges ever since 2020 and they're ready. They'll make sure those blue House seats turn red, no redistricting is even needed, just manipulation of the voting process--purging the voter rolls on the front end and not counting as many ballots as needed on the back end.

  • Looks good, just need to work on a few minor things:

    All of the ascenders and descenders (lines that extend above and below) need to be longer, especially on the f, d and the p. Also make sure the line on the right side of the a is clear and noticeable, it looks a lot like an o because you can hardly see that line. Overall the round parts of letters like a, d, g, p, etc are a little too wide/fat, so that combined with the vertical line parts being too short makes them look too similar to an o.

    That may sound like a lot of criticism, but overall it does look very good. It just takes a lot of words to try and describe these small issues.

  • You're advocating for a general strike? Great! Except ... then why are you disparaging the very people this thread is about who are doing exactly that, why are you saying "those efforts are useless" to: "Unions, faith groups and local leaders urge residents not to work, shop or go to school after killing of Renee Good". That is a general strike. Even though it's just one day per week for now.

    I know what your next reply will because I've seen it many times. You'll say it's not enough, that everyone has to strike every day all at once or it's useless. Nope. That's never going to happen and isn't how it happened in places where protests and strikes were effective. It doesn't have to be everyone every single day, though the more the better. It has to be enough that they can't be ignored or shut down.

    Will enough happen here? I really don't know because there is so much propaganda flooding the zone to suppress information, to scare and to dissuade people, and you're contributing to that. If you really do want to help, maybe at least just stop contributing to that.

  • Protesting isn't effective until it is. Maybe it never will be or maybe the tide will turn or who knows what. We only know doing nothing accomplishes nothing. There are plenty of cases on video of people in Minneapolis preventing ICE from taking people when a crowd showed up yelling, recording, and blowing whistles, where ICE turned around and left. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

    Now since you know so much about what doesn't work, tell me what should people be doing and what you have done to help make whatever that is happen? I'm tired of every time people try to take action and there's a post about it on here, you all come swarming out of the woodwork to repeat your same old talking points saying it's useless and no one should bother. What is your agenda?

    Either actually start doing something you think will be effective or shut up about it. Stop trying to dissuade the people who are actually doing something, whether you think they're effective or not.

    And why do you think people who participate in these things only do it once and stop? Generally the people who participate in one thing are the same people who continue participating in more things. Movements rarely spring full-force into existence at once, they build as more people are affected and/or become aware. Awareness is definitely starting to grow as even oblivious parts of the county are now starting to hear stuff getting through their bubbles that doesn't match the propaganda from their usual feeding trough.

    TBH this post reads like a copy of the typical "your efforts are useless so don't bother" propaganda that every. single. post advocating activism gets--there are at least 5 times as many posts lie this trying to dissuade people from taking action as posts advocating action. Gee I wonder whose interests that helps?

    If you want to argue about what works best and encourage more effective activities, go ahead and do that instead of just complaining about people who are doing something instead of nothing.

  • I've just watched the first third of this (original source linked by squirrel) video.

    tl;dw This is a great idea: Cory Doctorow explains how

    1. all the countries the US trades with were forced, in their trade agreements with the US under threat of losing the US market, to pass their own digital copyright anti-circumvention laws so that US big tech companies can seek rent and collect the personal data of citizens of those countries with impunity, and
    2. Now that trump has imposed all these tariffs on them and violated the agreements anyway, there is no longer any reason for them to to keep those laws on the books, laws which only hurt their own people and help US tech companies. He explains retaliatory tariffs only hurt their own people, that the best response is for other countries to stop protecting US oligarch and repeal those laws, which will help their own entrepreneurs and citizens, and withhold billions in rent to the US oligarchs.

    And that's just the first third of the video, but I stopped to post this before watching the rest. edit update: yeah the whole video is worth watching.

    No. They aren't panicking, they are proceeding with their plans full speed ahead and doing whatever they want with impunity. They still have just as much support from the magats as always, and every magat would still happily vote for trump again.

  • You mean about the proportion working for all values? No joke. If you think about it, it has to work like that since the two scales are fixed. You set the relationship between them once and leave it in that position, then you are just looking at different points along the scale to see the corresponding number on the other scale. So 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 etc.

    I remember when I was a kid my uncle had a slide rule and showed me how to use it. It was amazing how many different kind of calculations you could do. Of course I've forgotten most of what he said, but I remember how cool it was.

  • The problem is, it's only possible to know you were lying to yourself about something once the lie has been exposed and realized. The revelation most likely comes from an external source since the human mind is so good and not seeing things that don't fit into your beliefs.

  • OK but, how did they figure out that they had precisely 3.3 tsp of baking powder? What kind of measurement device would tell you that? 3.25, yes. 3.5, yes. Because you have quarter and half tsp measuring spoons, but no spoons to measure a decimal portion of volume.

My entire OP in this thread (along with a bunch of other people's) is about fighting against the corrupt Democratic party apparatus by primarying their candidates from the left, and you say you give up because they're corrupt. Well, that's your choice. Don't know why you bother to talk about it here, go live your life and let others decide the future then.

  • OMG you mean the power structure will run another primary candate in the next election to try and oust incumbents they don't like? Whatever shall we do, when the outcome of that primary will be determined by who gets the most votes? I can't think of anything! I guess we should just stay home and take whoever the elites decide they want.
