  • Thanks

I’m not ignoring it, Pegasus is very old news, never was proven to have an established backdoor and always needed a trojan horse like system to work (i.e. gullible user clicks on stuff) again that’s not limited to the fruit farm, and happens to all systems, even open source linux. If anything the fruit farm does better work at bringing awareness of potential spammers and scammers in their text and email apps.

Cloud act again applies to all not just Apple. There simply is no evidence in anything you’re presenting to substantiate ios being readily hackable in a wide scale to the extent that “even Bezos got hacked”, that’s all I’m saying. I took all of it serious, you just didn’t demonstrate anything that I wasn’t already aware of or provided demonstrable proof of your wild claims. (Articles with steps to reproduce, lists of victims, class action suits costing apple millions of dollars etc), because it never happened.

And the reason it has yet to happen, is because they still have a (not that great but still functional) bounty program, regular software updates, and still despite the most fascistic regime ever above them, have not built in a backdoor despite many prior requests.

The only thing that is increasingly happening behind the scenes probably is them secretly complying more and more with secret court orders (not court orders that are sealed, but secret courts that the public isn’t aware of, issuing orders with full legal effect) and using that to aide ICE/BPD in their gestapo shit). Which is horrible and bad, but would again be exactly what meta, alphabet and amazon are also doing.

Take care and thanks for the civil discourse.

  • Agree with all that. I wasn’t saying because the Russians are obviously using Snowden as a pawn, that other countries are so much better. Every country has to dance between these 3 dangerous behemoths. 1 of the behemoths is also very good friends or practically ruling the largest military on the face of the earth.

  • Your second link goes to an article with tons of ads where there one source linked to this:

    https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/icloud-for-windows-corrupting-videos-downloading-other-peoples-photos.2370666/page-2

One user posting something without any proof, one or two others saying me too, and then the entire thread doesn’t even get longer than 2 pages with most people fretting about Apple’s apps on windows sucking balls since before the stone age. Someone in that thread points out that if this was real, there would be tons of outlets like The Verge posting about this outlining steps to replicate etc. None of that happened.

I’m going to have to bail here buddy. I entertained a random person on the internet, im sure you’re a good person, but I have been following the fruit farm from very close for very long. Nothing I say will make you think that I’m not a hypnotised blinded by fruit person, but that’s okay.

Your other articles probably are mostly true: Apple has bent over to China because it’s one of their biggest markets and their plan to divest production from that country will take decades, but is going well.

Apple is an ad company and a streaming company. They still don’t sell personal data and are nowhere near the apocalyptic personal data harvesters like Meta, Amazon and Alphabet have built their businesses around.

They don’t get a free pass, but of all of silicon valley they are the least bad of a bunch of really rotten ones. And miles behind the ethics of Linus Torvalds.

Other reasons this message may be displayed:

  • You misspelled easy conduit to spread fear proppo to progressive westerners

  • Ok, thanks for providing some sources.

In the first article I see:

As of October 6th, 2020, the vast majority of these findings have been fixed and credited. They were typically remediated within 1-2 business days (with some being fixed in as little as 4-6 hours).

    Not great, not terrible either.

The other articles all read to me as a bounty program in flux but not being shut down or the corporation going muted and isolationist. They are still doing outreach and having discussions, just not at the higher payouts the bounty hunters were expected.

I was however asking links about your more wild claims “Iphones haven been hacked”, “bezos has been hacked” etc. Those are very hard to believe without any evidence.

But I’m grateful you responded in a constructive way, and posted relevant links. I just don’t think they depict the fruit farm as evil as you would like.

That said, we both want the same thing (seeing we’re here and not in spez’ backyard): decentralisation. As soon as there is a viable alternative, I’ll hop on board and even donate.

  • No no. One link. Just post one link, no wall of text, of a reputable news org or hackers org that substantiates any of your claims. That’s all you have to do to prove to me you want to be credible or reasonable.

I’ve reversed my position many times in light of better evidence. As I said, good luck.

  • You’re right they are masters of marketing which is why they couldn’t afford this type of scandal you’re describing.

App store being atrocious and bezos being hacked? Care to substantiate any of these claims?

Next you’ll say the victims of the fappening all had iphones too.

There’s plenty of substantive stuff to be mad at the fruit company for, but you’re just spreading rumours at best or wilful misinformation to try and get more people on the linux train.

Your goals are noble, but your means slightly dark.

If there was a backdoor in something this massive, we would know about it. And it wouldn’t be you writing it here but article after article and Lemmy would be plastered with memes about it for weeks if not months.

You’ll never agree to this, so I wish you the best of luck getting us all to a functioning mobile linux platform asap.

  • Might I politely add, that the fruit store has bet its entire image on the opposite of what you’re claiming? So if the new fruit store head farmer decides to lift the plastic lid and press the res button, they would make an irreversible decision which would be the end of them right away.

Millions of dollars of bounties both by Israeli intelligence, Apple themselves and several entities on the dark web still haven’t come up with anything near credible to support these theories. Unless you’re counting bugs found, reported and patched.

We should by all means work towards open hardware with a FOSS Linux mobile OS on it, but this theory is so tiring.

Could the fruit store technically accomplish this? Yes. Can they do it silently? Yes for at most a few weeks before it comes out. Could they weaponise it on just a few people? Again, this would come out in no time.

Ps Snowden being alive and well in Russia for this long should tell you something else too.

  • Not just senators.

    Plenty of non-white Americans too.

Also the one we really all want dead is getting propped up on engine coolant and fire retardants every week at Walter Reed or Camp David.

  • More than ever before, life is truly what you make of it.

The very affluent can live among the very poor. The darkest skin tones with the lightest. The happiest among the depressed.

Beware of garbage in and garbage out.

Your thoughts will become your words, those words will become your actions, and those actions will become your world.

It is truly a blank piece of paper.

(Unless you wear certain tshirts, bring your children to school in the usa, etc)

The world is changing very rapidly, and the future will be a rough ride for many, but the art is to understand that there are things that you can change and things you must accept.

And it’s a rare show. We’ve never had environmental collapse overlap with the fall of an empire before on Earth. Only death is certain (yes, even for you Elon)

  • At least spez hasn't gone full nazi yet

  • I say, I really don’t get why so many people stay over on Reddit.

This might be a micro version of the actual future internet, where we walk away from the global model and split it into ideological countries who believe the best way forward is to stop talking to the other group.

We’ve come a long way from drawing artificial lines on maps.

  • Again, you’re right, but the TOS do need to be clear and unambiguous which this is not. This is - like a lot of Lemmy these days- a knee jerk response to a novel technology that’s not fully understood. That’s obvious because of how the rules are worded.

This opens them up to anti discrimination lawsuits - which are take quite serious in German courts. They would have to demonstrate that a user is banned from uploading work because it is “mostly” LLM generated and not because they are trans or black or something.

I know this is unpopular opinion on Lemmy atm, but this genie isn’t going back in the bottle. And it is very difficult to fence against because when used properly as an assisting tool, and not as an oracle of truth or a full self driving vibecoding machine, the code quality is basically indistinguishable from human code.

I’m not saying Codeberg can’t do this, I’m saying they will struggle once there is serious pushback on this and it will hopefully open up the discussions on copyright and their place in modern society. Akin to how guns are still made and used, but the more advanced countries have strict laws around who can purchase them and who can use them and for what purpose.

  • I agree they are within their right to do it, I’m saying it legally wouldn’t survive a challenge in court the way they implemented it.

No need for your combative tone or assuming I have slop that needs hosting.

  • It’s more than just the ‘mostly’. In legal proceedings they would really struggle to ‘demonstrate cause’, i.e. what is copyrighted, and what is not - not to mention demonstrating criminal intent.

As I wrote before, these are phase 2 effects of a new emerging technology. All it will take is one company to go after them in court to reverse this.

  • Report them. These are most likely reddit scraping bot accounts that don’t declare themselves as bot accounts.

  • We’re going to have to do something about it. VetOfTheSeas is similar. These are scripts that scrape reddit and repost popular stuff back on here, but they all have forgone to register these as bot accounts.
