  • Just guessing, but I suppose it could be cloudflare "verifying" the web browser by subjecting it to all manner of abuse to confirm that it is worthy. Disabling your ad-blockers and such, thus leaving yourself open to all its probes and getting its fingerprints all over your browser's insides might be what's expected of the user here.

  • Using exclusively Linux on the desktop has been possible since 1997, when I switched to being mostly a linux user — what people mean by "getting closer" is that it's much closer than it used to be to being completely automatic, requiring no effort or thought whatsoever.
