  • One time a coworker and I went into an old abandoned building. It was pretty unremarkable until near the end when we found a room full of giant glass cases and stacks of newspapers with headlines about missing people.

It pretty quickly went from "Oh interesting" to "We should probably leave" pretty quick.

I also found a 'vote for Ralph Nader' button in there which was kinda neat.

  • I got a bunch of software certs for when I was first job hunting and now they either no longer exist or have been so changed that the certs don't matter.

  • More games, if not all games, should include cheats or extra sliders for both difficult but also gameplay options.

Let have infinite mana or slow mo or increase my speed or whatever. At the end of the day games are entertainment and you should be able to tweak things to better enjoy it.

(I know mods exist but those are a mixed bag in terms of if they exist and what they support)

  • I still consider it HD lol

  • That I need to keep it simple.

I tend to make things overcomplicated.

  • I haven't really had a good experience with AI yet.

  • I finally brought up a difficult issue I have been dealing with to a friend. To be blunt, they've traditionally been not-great-advice-givers but they had some strong advice this time and its given me a lot to think about.

  • Lumber. I was planning out a project with teak wood and noped out as soon as I saw the prices.

  • I had a plastic card that fit in a wallet: it had various conversion numbers and measurements and a ruler on the side. Decently handy pre-mobile internet days.

They took it because it was thin enough to be "dangerous", I guess?

It was weird and I didn't care enough to say anything about it.

  • Women in video games.

    • Microsoft will unironically release their own Linux distro

  • I once got a burger from a cheap looking fast food place and my first bite was funky and cold.

Looked at the meat and it was basically still raw and partially frozen in the center.

    It was a bad time.

  • This is going to be a semi-spicy take, but World of Warcraft.

I had a lot of friends who were into it during Cataclysm but I had a hard time getting into it despite it being THE game everyone was obsessing over. It got to the point where I was struggling to get them to play anything else and it pretty much split our gaming group.

Even after all these years, some of them still play it and its still a big piece of their gaming sessions.

  • Texas Hold 'Em

  • The man is putting his hands too low and grabbing her butt.

  • People tend to assume if someone is smart in one thing, they're smart with everything else too.

    That's not usually the case.

  • Which would have been funny. They didn't ever restock the drink, though.

  • One time I was at a grocery store and they sold out of a particular drink I liked.

A manager was standing nearby and I asked when they would restock it.

"Never." He said. "It always sells out and I don't want to constantly order and restock it, so I'm not going to get more."

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

    How are you doing?

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Has anyone done something small for you that helped you in a big way that they did not realize?
