I kind of find that (2) is pretty pervasive though. I think it's one of lemmy's biggest flaws right now. That's why I was so careful with the quotes, but I guess it backfired (sorry). Hopefully we can all take a chill pill collectively at some point...
Bezos' entire personality gets me fuming; I would want to punch him even if he weren't a billionaire. (Remember that time he talked over William Shatner touchdown?)
Musk honestly looks ok to me personally, I guess the gender-affirming surgeries went well. But the thought of what's going on behind his eyes makes me want to punch him in the face real bad.
I think copyright lasting 20 years or so is not unreasonable in our current society. I'd obviously love to live in a society where we could get away with lower. As a compromise, I'd like to see compulsory licensing applied to all written work. (E.g., after n years, anyone can use it if they pay royalties and you can't stop them; the amount of royalties gradually decreases until it's in the public domain.)
The reason is because I don't want people scrolling through my comment history taking this out of context and thinking I'm somebody who unironically and unquotatively uses the term «brown people». (Guillemets as a truce, ok?) I won't deny that it's performative.
Oh! I didn't know he was Canadian. Now I love him even -- well, tbh, exactly the same. But I hate Gretzky even more because he's Canadian that's for sure.
Well yeah, this is obviously not benign. I don't want him saying "no queer people" even dressed up in the most polite language.
Edit: I would honestly be happier if he said it in the most abrasive, nazi, slur-riddled way possible and tore the mask off. Incrementalism is what he hides behind.
That is certainly different. Trump's not black. In contrast, "queer," pink triangle, and other reclaimed homophobic slurs are encouraged for general use. Try another slur instead as a counterargument please.
As an illustration of what I mean -- IMO it'd be much worse if he said "no fags" or something like that.
Pink triangle was reclaimed though. So IMO pink triangle with a cancel sign over it shouldn't be seen as nazi-level homophobia, just regular homophobia for Trump. Admittedly, Trump's a nazi, so...
so it's a lot of power that he has, too much power. I think we agree here -- but nothing you're saying seems to be related to electedness. If Trump, who was elected, shouldn't have the power, and yet Musk does, then "unelected" doesn't seem remotely relevant to the problem.
okay, so he's not a government official. I think that "not a government official" would be a great description, still better than "unelected" which in my opinion is not relevant -- he was appointed directly by an elected official, just like actual government officials. I don't see why it's disingenuous.
You don't hear this criticism levelled at other malfunctioning government officials though. Perhaps one would if they went as off-the-rails as Musk. Still, I wish people would use accurate critiques of their opponents, such as as @Doctor_Satan mentions, that he is wholly without cheques or balances.
search engines hardly index lemmy unfortunately. Probably due to having too much repeated content on different URLs.
