Add another voice asking for sources, but if true, this is great. IMO, we need a strong 50 state strategy ala Howard Dean's strategy from the mid to late 2000s. Abandoning that to focus on swing districts is a huge part of why we're where we are at right now, and why so many Americans think Democrats don't work for them.
We need to be doing this more. Obviously, we need to prioritise our spending, but if there's a chance, like somebody's only 2 points down next to an incumbent Trumper, throw some money their way and let's see what sticks? Lots of people getting frustrated with the Shitgibbon and his merry band of miscreants. Maybe we can get some wins and put the screws to those shitheads.

This is an excellent point. Trump brought out 77.3 million votes for his coalition. Meanwhile, 75.0m voted Harris, and 3.0 million voted third party (mix of ideologies, not all would-be Harris votes). Add to that 90+ million non-voters, which probably has some fraction of the 6 or so million voters who voted for Biden in 2020 who didn't turn out for Harris. Convince 29k people in Wisconsin, 80k in Michigan, 120k in Pennsylvania, and like 45k in Nevada to turn out for Harris, and we're not having this conversation right now. We don't need all the cult to switch votes. Frankly, 1% swapping or 2% actually turning out is all we need. And people dooming about how set the Trumpers are seem to be working more to depress enthusiasm amongst Blue Team players than actually save democracy.

How I explain Self-Hosting to the non-techies in my life: "This is me practicing my trade. As a server and systems admin, I need servers and systems under my control that I can experiment with, set up, configure, break, and fix, and self-hosting has a benefit that instead of four computers, two by my wife and two by me, each hosting its own data, I can set up a network storage device where both of us can store our data." Any more than that, and I probably won't go into detail, because I don't ask my accountant friends to go into the weeds about their career and return that favour by not going into the weeds about my own. :)

Absolutely. And while the person is filibustering, he should be placed in a small room, with a lectern, cameras, and a microphone, and must speak on the topic at hand. No reading from the phone book. You best be talking about the bill you're stopping, or any supporter of that bill can immediately call for a vote. And you lecturing doesn't mean the Senate's business stops. Other bills can be called and the only way you get to vote is have someone take over the stand for you while you go vote. Regardless of who's up there, you gotta keep talking about the bill. Make filibusters put skin in the game.

The Midterms will represent a potential check on Trump's power, though we still have major hurdles in the Supreme Court and Trump himself. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump keeps doing what he wants under cover of a Reich-Wing Supreme Court and with a threat of an armed revolt of his MAGA base. The hope is that we can limp through the next two years after the Shitgibbon gets put in check, forcing him to run around the board trying more and more unhinged things until we checkmate him in 28. The reality is that he's still got plenty of pieces and isn't afraid to flip the board if he doesn't get what he wants.

But maybe if he and his followers see tens of millions of people standing up when he tries it, they might fuck off back to the holes they came from.

When you say kid, I think 4 to 10 years old. A tween is 11 or 12 years old. A teen is 13 to 18. Technically, a 19 year old is also a teenager, but they're also a young adult. Nobody older than that gets the 'kid' pass from me.

These people were in their 20s and 30s. They are grown-ass adults who should have responsibilities of grown-ass adults. If you say 'I love Hitler,' at any age, you get another title from me. "Shithead." And that transcends age.

Uh, no? I want an EV, though I want a small one that has a light touch on the environment. It's true that I don't want one that's from a Nazi wannabe, but I do want an EV that has decent range and can transport my wife and me for daily tasks. But maybe I don't catch the attention of US EV makers because I'd rather an e-bike than an E-SUV?

There is a very serious rot in the USA. It's the kind of rot that says empathy is a sin and that kindness is weakness. It's the kind of rot that says hate and bigotry are good, and kindness and acceptance are what's wrong with society. That America is best when it is what Liberals say is worst. And don't delude yourself. The rot is much higher than the 40% cited in this poll, for 100% of the Republicans and a decent chunk of independents would vote for the shitgibbon over anything on the Left because they've drank the koolaid from Team Red about Team Blue. And if that's not bad enough, enough Team Blue has drunk the Russian koolaid and will stay home or vote third party to enable Team Red to steal things and break shit.

They'd rather a 'childfucker-in-chief' to borrow Steve's line than have a Dem in charge. Both groups.

My wife and I have location sharing enabled in case something happens to one of us. We usually don't use it, but its good to have when we need to meet up at an unfamiliar place after something goes sideways for one of us.

But if your SO doesn't trust you enough to allow you private moments and would accuse you of cheating, your relationship isn't based on trust and thus is very weak.

...these people have had PLENTY of space to change who they are and how they vote. They had 4 years of 'finding out' after they fucked around in 2016. And we warned them, big time, what a vote for him in 2024 would mean. How much space will you and others like you give these people. That's the question of the hour.

I mean, the evidence is right there.

In 2020, 81 million people turned out for Biden. That number decreased to 75 million in 2024.

In 2020, 74 million people turned out for Trump. That number increased to 77 million in 2024.

In 2020, roughly 2.9 million people turned out for a third party candidate. Of these, 1.8m went Libertarian, with 407k for Green. In 2024, 2.9 million turned out for a 3rd party. This time it broke 862k for the Greens, 756k for Junior (I refuse to sully the Kennedy Name with him!), and 650k for the Libertarians.

Explicit evidence that requires a minimum of data science skills to process. 6 million people who voted for Biden didn't turn out for Harris, while Trump somehow got 3 million more people to vote for him. Meanwhile, support for the Libertarians cratered by 1.2m, and support for the Greens doubled from 407k to 862k. And Junior? He was explicitly in the race to hurt Dems. So, another 756k added to the Dem 'alternative' vote, now split between two parties. So, from 1.8m spoiling the Right in 2020 to 1.6m spoiling the Left.

The data is there if you're willing to look. All 1.6m of those people who voted Green or Junior for some strange reason? They voted for this. Just like the 6 million people who voted for Biden in 2020 and didn't in 2024, or the unknown number of people, estimated betwen 90m and 100m, who sat home. And of course, the 77 million who voted directly for Trump. Every last one of these people, save the fraction of the 77 million who want what Trump promised, could have had a seat at the table and a voice at trying to drive the monolith that is US policy, but they elected to surrender their agency.

I know you don't like to hear this, but everyone who made those choices above has surrendered this country to Fascism. And I'm not sorry for calling it out.

News flash: Everyone you mention is getting blame.

We're not absolving the 77 million (to correct your numbers) Trump voters. In fact, this is explicitly called out whenever someone says "This is not what I voted for!" on Team Red. Especially when we say "Oh, no, this is exactly what you voted for, but you voted for it to happen to other people. Suck it up, buttercup!"

And the 100 million non-voters? They are EXACTLY who are being called out by someguy3. I mean, 'protest-non-voters' explicitly belong in the group of 100 million who don't vote.

And don't forget a lesson everyone old enough to vote should have learned a loong, loong time ago. We don't always get what we want. When the choices are "Greater Evil" and "Lesser Evil", which they are all too often, either you vote "Lesser Evil" or accept the consequences of "Greater Evil". 100 million people said they couldn't be bothered to choose, and 2 million thought they had a viable alternative beyond "Greater Evil" and "Lesser Evil" and threw their votes away for distraction candidates.

And here we are. Enjoy your Mango Mussolini. That's the guy you picked with all the ranting you did above, assuming you didn't swallow your pride and vote Harris in '24. In that case, other people making your argument picked Mango Mussolini for all of us.
