    Probably more that if you want to work on graphics software, you need to understand graphics programming?

    That's unfortunately very difficult. I know of no good way to do that. With specification based software, you can at least read the specification or related standard and then it flows from that how it should work. With programs that server a different, specific use case, there is a manual, and flow to things and then "things stick out".

    If there are issues, you just read a bunch of issues and read the code that they are about and get a feeling for why the issue is an issue and why the code is the way that it is.

    I remember one thing I helped with for a short while, didn't use the python "with" file writing dialogue, because the file they were writing was massive and opening it in one place, then doing a bunch of functions that wrote and appended to the file and then closing it somewhere else, was the best solution, even though it looked unclean at first.

  • Remember that story about the chalk mark engineer with Ford? Chalk mark 1$, knowing where to mark 1000$ ? Same with code. "Code" is easy. Knowing what to write, why and where, that's the hard part. LLMs have somehow managed to automate the code part, without the abstraction, at least in an error proof way. I don't think "coding isn't that hard" is insulting, and I don't use C++ because I think it's hard. But it's not because writing something is hard, it's because writing precisely what is needed is hard.

    Anyway, this debate doesn't matter, negotiate better, be active politically to ban stuff or not, complaining on the internet won't do anyone any good. I know you're emotionally invested in this, just... breathe and do something else? Idk. Also I'm not your enemy on this, so no need to attack me.

    "don't worry about it". 😐 Which is bad advice to someone after burnout and specifically asking for advice, but it's also kind of true.

    But first things first:

    Even today I tried striking some casual convos but seniors have some attitude towards freshers i guess, and freshers were too busy completing their docs maybe.

    Some people are just... useless and weird. Don't bother with them. Like, don't stress about why someone doesn't want to talk with you, or does or doesn't do something. Including professors. Some are nice, some are just there to do their job, and you will be able to tell which is which. I've met plenty of people who can't hold a conversation to save their lives. Somehow.

    Yeah, that's normal. The world is a big place, chances are you won't relate to many people.

    My biggest, best piece of advice is to join some student club that does stuff that's not just studying and does it more consistently than just one semester for some course. For example a sports club, who does try and does go to meets and stuff, but the point is enjoying the sport together. Or art. Or books. Or science. That's where I had most fun and where I got most out of my time.

    Because studying is hit and miss. Of course you try to go for something interesting but you never know in advance if you can actually stand the work or do the workload or if you need to switch... majors I think it's college? Don't worry about that either.

    The ONLY THING you absolutely must do, is attend. Get out of bed, and just GO, try to pay attention in the classes and take notes. That's the barrier most people fail at. They skip classes or attend but don't pay attention. Put yourself into the situation where "learning" is just the thing you do. Like going to the library, reviewing your material and planning your day in advance to do it.

    And everyone is constantly stressed for time too. It's a good idea to focus on some studying, but don't reject opportunities that are coming your way because you think it'll conflict with that. Occasionally try to do more than you think you can handle and you'll surprise yourself when it works out. Those places are filled with other students who want to do stuff and "career opportunities" (companies trying to score cheap employees) and events and this and that. Just go and keep your eyes open.

    That can't be done or they would be burying the "agentic AI" thing that has been the goal and marketing thing for the last years.

    Independent actions by copilot on behalf of the user without the users knowledge is the entire point.

  • I mean... yeah. Duh. They say so openly on the website, that's the point.

    They observed wrongdoing, were fired for opposing it and now they are trying to highlight that and make it public.

    Whether the whole thing is TRUE is the question. I don't know that. I guess it's a reminder that ultimately everything online could be fake and false and manipulation. We would need more sources with similar stories. But if everyone didn't publish because they would be the first, we would never get multiple sources.

    So, just read it as a biased perspective and leave it unsolved whether it's true or false...
