  • 3,000 years: .... users can no longer interpret your query and have turned it into a religion of their own making and design. This has spawned several schisms and now there are global wars occurring between different factions.

  • Or better yet .... stop reporting crap like this and instead send me a report or a news article telling what happened to Trump AFTER he was thrown in jail or actually punished for his actions.

  • Brain-jacking would probably be less resource intensive and save a ton of space on a ship. If they have the technology to project giant interactive holograms in a massive cargo bay or warehouse ... they would have the technology and medical tech to wire a brain. After all, the brain is just one giant processor that receives inputs .... highjack the inputs and feed the processor the right information at the right times and you can simulate anything.

  • It's called the "Shot Gun Approach" ... I learned it a long time ago with basic photography. I was so worried about being able to take great photos that I asked a professional photographer about it and he just said take lots of photos, as many as you can ... the 'Shotgun Approach'.

You just snap a ton of stuff, stuff you think is good, stuff you think is important, stuff you want, stuff you think you should do, this stuff, that stuff, any stuff ... just get the biggest memory card you can get or film or whatever and just take as many photos as you can of everything.

When you get back, about 98% of all your photos will be shit ... but you will have about a dozen great shots where people will comment on how great a photographer you are.

You basically blast the entire activity with everything you got ... like a shot gun blast ... a true shot gun blast throws out a lot lead pellets in a general direction. Not all of them will hit their mark but several will.

It's better than the Sniper Approach ... where you base all your energy, will and hopes into one single shot .. you take all your energy and time into that one shot and if you miss, which is highly likely, you will lose everything and you will be forgotten.

So whatever you are doing in life ... just give it your all ... most of it will be forgettable but a small part of it will be celebrated because people will think you were a genius for doing it. The more you do, the more likely you will be successful in something.

  • The fact that she even had to say it to remind people is completely insane

  • I spent all of high school arguing with my English teachers about whether or not it is spelled 'a lot' or 'alot'. I spelled out 'alot' so often in my assignments and argued about it that at one point, even the teachers began to question whether or not it was spelled that way. It was easier to confuse these things pre-internet and pre-google .... plus I had a lot of gullible (but nice) teachers.

  • YES .... and that is insane ... I'm all for helping kids and keeping them safe but if you're going to spend thousands of dollars to tell everyone in the province at 4am that a single child MAY have been lost in the city, it might be a better use of public dollars to instead fund support programs and services for families and children instead.

The whole public broadcast system was supposed to be about alerting the public about a major catastrophe, the apocalypse, an asteroid has wiped out Toronto, the Russians have launched a full scale invasion, America is finally going ahead with annexing Canada, etc .... instead it's turned into a public propaganda campaign service to casually keep people on edge and superficially make people think that the government is actually doing something.

  • I'm in northern Ontario in Canada ... our province is roughly about 1,500 km long north to south, 1,500 km east to west, and at about 1 million square kilometers it is roughly three times the size of Germany, ten times the size of England, twice the size of Spain or France and you could fit Portugal between Windsor and Ottawa ... but if a child gets lost in Toronto, I gotta know about it in northern Ontario as soon as possible through the Emergency Broadcast system because someone could have abducted the child in downtown Toronto an hour ago and used an F16 fighter jet to fly little kidnapped Timmy to Sudbury in 60 minutes.

  • I suppose it's like the saying in treatment and recovery ....

"usually the last person to find out a person is an alcoholic .... is the alcoholic"

  • Whenever I have these discussions with friends I always like to remind people that our species is also still relatively new ... evolutionarily speaking. Our earliest ancestors were 2 million years ago but our anatomical ancestors were about 100,000 years ago but our earliest ancestors that looked, talked, acted and thought like us was about 30,000 years ago. Out of all that 30,000 years, it has only been in the last 200 years that we achieved modern science and technological expertise and development. The vast measure of our species for the past 29,800 years, we acted like frightened cave people that believed in sky gods, spirits and witchcraft while organizing our lives around sex, eating, finding shelter and fighting everyone else for these resources because we always thought we would run out of these things and we shouldn't share anything.

For most of humanity, we were hunter gatherers .... it's only in the last 200 years that we became modern ... so in essence, we are still hunter gatherers, with the same fears who happen to have access to machine guns, nuclear weapons, cars and the internet.

  • I do know a lot about addictions and addict ... I'm a recovered alcoholic myself ... over 30 years sobriety now.

And I have heard of these people described as addicts suffering from an addiction. One of the first signs of addiction is in how your addiction negatively affects your life ... the other signs include how your addiction negatively affects the lives of others around you.

So why don't we treat excessive, unnecessary and wasteful wealth and power as an addiction that severely affects society. We treat alcoholism and drug addiction with great shame ... but if we collect, consume and horde endless wealth while it negatively affects our lives and the lives of millions of people -> that is perfectly normal and acceptable.

  • I wouldn't be so hard on Bashir .... if any one of us had access to build saved programs on a holodeck at Quarks ... we'd have some pretty weird, strange and unusual programs that many or most people would either find strange, deranged, upsetting, erotic, scandalous, hilarious or sad
