I've had something similar happen. Old school mom n pop diner type of restaurant in a "big suburb" level city, sorta "local famous" kind of place, had seen cars with their bumper stickers around town for years, figured we'd try it one day just for shits and grins. The feeling was not bad enough to leave, we went ahead and ate and paid and left. But definitely had the feeling that we were being, not necessarily watched overtly, but they were keeping an eye on us. Everyone. Wait staff, other customers. No idea why. The whole time just vaguely uncomfortable feeling that you can't really put your finger on. After we left, my wife and I both at pretty much the same time were like "ok that was creepy right?"
Stephen King was what I thought of too. Specifically the scene in (I think) one of the Dark Tower books where they go into the restaurant that is owned by vampires or whatever they were.
Chili cheese burritos are the best. Some locations have them, some don't. Of the two closest locations to me, one has them all the time, one doesn't. Dunno why. I used to think it was a regional thing but these two are only like five miles apart so who knows.
I did notice that chili cheese burritos and enchiritos are currently on their new/limited time menu so you may be in luck right now if you're really jonesing for one.
As I sit here and think about it now, I kinda wonder if it's because neither one of them uses lettuce so it was a quick and easy way to get something "new" on the menu that wouldn't require an apology for missing ingredients.
The two Joaquin Phoenix Joker movies, maybe kinda sorta? No flying or capes or utility belts, but they're about Batman characters, and presumably set in a Batman universe, or at least a precursor/adjacent universe.
I accidentally bypassed the paywall by clicking one of the links to a different article (the "Go fuck yourself, Bambu" link to GN) and then clicking the back button. When I landed back on the Verge article, the "subscribe to the verge to continue reading" message was gone and I had the full article text.
Only worked once tho, I just tried to do it again and I still get the "subscribe" message now.
Microbrachius means “little arms” and refers to the genital limbs that locked male and female fish together when mating. And dicki means – that’s right, you guessed it.
I had been a plague doctor one Halloween several years before the 'rona hit. I definitely dug the mask back out and went grocery shopping with it a few times during the height of the pandemic.
Meat Church Holy Voodoo is my favorite ever. It's Cajun-ish but a little less spicy. Technically a dry rub more than a cooking spice blend I suppose, but I have occasionally used it in place of real Cajun when I wanted the flavor but not the heat, and never had any complaints. All the Meat Church rubs are just fantastic.
