  • Is this slop? The shading is sensible and consistent, their weight is represented on the couch cushions, and the style is relatively common (though that could go either way).

    I’m genuinely asking, because I don’t know what signs people look for other than those.

  • Clerks tend to do research and draft legal opinions for the judges they serve under, which can absolutely influence those judges, but the main reason people want a SCOTUS clerkship is for the resume boost.

    Clerking for a Supreme Court justice opens doors in big law, at political think tanks, and helps increase your visibility for your own potential nomination as a judge.

    Judges do not necessarily disclose their political affiliations, so I wouldn’t want to say something that I can’t confirm, but most presidents don’t appoint judges they don’t tend to agree with. I just clicked through on each of them to see who appointed them.

  • Before the pandemic, two of my coworkers were first year law students together at the local university. The teachers discovered a cheating ring of 170+ students in their class of something like 200 students.

    They just made them take a new version of the most recent exam and there was no other punishment, because it was too devastatingly large a portion of their students to expel them all, even though that was their stated policy.

    I suspect something similar will happen with AI, and it will be just as disappointing.
