I think they do have the stomach for it. And also smart enough to get away with conning people, to know how to not get in trouble with lawmakers, do that fine print just right etc. They act as if they are helping people by offering easy credit while they know they're not earning money from people who can easily pay them back. They profit off the least capable to keep their finances in order, living of the weak and vulnerable like parasites do.

People in debt (before there is professional help) end up paying the important things first (such as rent) and then choose to pay off the debt that is most within their reach. Klarna is much more likely to be a low amount compared to their creditors.
It might be true their loans are more likely to be payed back while also they might have less to loose in case of a personal bankruptcy.
But that aside, i have no clue on whether Klarna is making a smart move. But i assume they are because companies that are both evil and stupid don't tend to come far.
They're just following a simple set of rules for when you did something bad: reflect attention by creating an enemy that is smaller in size than the group who's attention you're deflecting. Since he isn't important and doesn't have the influence to pick a new enemy, poor guy has no choice to jump on a bandwagon. Current option in the us is "illegals" and "trans". Yes his actions are deplorabele and need to be countered, but let's not only pay attention to his deflection but also try and figure out why he feels the need to speak out against trans people. If he was just a biggot he could have kept his mouth shut too, if he was just kissing the butt of some trans-hater he would likely done so sooner. There could be another reason he is doing this now.
Well yes, but it is relevant unless you believe policy makers will only work towards a world that is how it should be. That's why i started with mentioning i don't disagree with you. We surely can blame them for the results of their choices, but i don't think we can play the 'omg i'm totally surprised'-card is what i'm saying.
Not disagreeing, but if Trump hadn't won a second term there really wouldn't be a dire reason to avoid the US. Sure they would be better of choosing a local or at least European provider, but most politicians (naively) didn't see the current hostility coming.
Not necessarily, TikTok now delete accounts they believe to belong to children under 13. They could have chosen to do age authentication the British way but i suppose they had a big reason not to. Microsoft might understand they could lose business if they force users to prove they're not children. It's not like everybody would trust MS with such data.
There is a reason we put locks on our doors and have insurance in case someone does break in. Sure this is an issue that needs to be addressed but it is one much smaller than getting the people in power to put things in motion. Once that happens (and we're getting there) there will be funding and a public awareness campaign for sure, especially once the first politician gets hacked because they were using non-proprietary software because he wanted to kick Big Tech out..
I'd argue in this situation waking up yesterday would be a lot better than waking up today, but also better next week then next year. The more people get awake the bigger the critical mass needed to turn this shit around.
