  • Isn’t every niche community full of gatekeepers before it becomes mainstream?

  • “Won’t someone think of the children!” The Republican screams while zip tying children.

  • Blatant partisanship instead of helping Americans. woo. 🙄😒

  • All DRM is like a padlock. It only stops people who don’t really want to break it in the first place.

  • Don’t auto update. Read the release notes before you update things. Sometimes you have to do some things manually to keep from breaking things.

  • I’ll pronounce Spanish words in an American accent, but using Spanish pronunciation. For example, if I say “I would love a quesadilla, but I don’t have any queso or tortillas.” I’ll pronounce the “que” as “kay” instead of “kway” and the “illa” as “eeya” instead of “ila”, but in an American accent. The exception being if I’m pronouncing a place name, then I’ll pronounce it with English pronunciation. Like “Los Angeles”, I pronounce as “loss anjiless”.

  • I have eight Reolink cameras. They’re awesome. Haven’t had any issues with them other than the occasional disconnect, which only lasts a few seconds.

  • I use Ubuntu Server -> dm-integrity -> mdadm -> ext4. Super easy to set up (it just takes forever to do dm-integrity on the drives, but you don’t need to watch it), works great, easy to maintain. Everything I run on it is dockerized with docker compose and sits behind nginx-proxy-manager, so it’s also super easy to maintain.

  • ChatGPT:

You can’t tell me that it’s not a man.

  • “$1,000,000 if you let me stab you in the stomach five times.”

“Ok, I guess. My daughter has cancer, and this is the only way I can save her.”

    Stabs him four times.

“Oh god, it hurts. Ok, I’m ready for the last one.”

“Nah, I think we’re good. So I’ll be keeping the $1,000,000.”

  • Sounds good to me.

  • “good enough” code is basically a requirement at Facebook. (As an upper limit, not a lower limit.)

  • I used to work for Facebook, and in their UI, it keeps you from taking a username less than 5 letters, but there was nothing in the database to stop it. So, I removed the check, brought up an instance on my dev server, and took the username “h”. I got a lot of threats for that.

    I’m no longer on Facebook.

  • Sorry, but, is CSV hard to parse? Wouldn’t it be an O(n) operation? Like, you can parse it as fast as you can read it.

Ok, I read the article. There are definitely some really cool optimizations, but I think it still fundamentally runs in O(n) time. Really cool article and worth the read, though.

  • For all of my colorblind pals here, it says,

    According to all known laws
    of aviation,
there is no way a bee
    should be able to fly.
Its wings are too small to get
its fat little body off the ground.
The bee, of course, flies anyway
    because bees don't care
    what humans think is impossible.
    Yellow, black. Yellow, black.
    Yellow, black. Yellow, black.
    Ooh, black and yellow!
Let's shake it up a little.
    Barry! Breakfast is ready!
    Coming!
    Hang on a second.
    Hello?
    - Barry?
    - Adam?
    - Can you believe this is happening?
    - I can't. I'll pick you up.
    Looking sharp.
    Use the stairs. Your father
    paid good money for those.
    Sorry. I'm excited.
    …
