  • Yeah the correct thing to do would have been to just Google it and then post the results to lemmy

Which literally increases the body of knowledge

    Laziness has become an entitlement

  • Download your copies of Wikipedia before it’s too late

  • I’ve seen the climate shift before my eyes too but I mean the specific storm predictions but not hurricanes tracking which has actually become very accurate

The local storm predictions I will watch update in real time and dramatically reduce all their numbers as it comes in that it wasn’t the worst case scenario

It’ll be “accurate” when it finally is the worst case scenario so nobody will be underprepared but it annoys me that it’s constant specific forecasting doom until it isn’t

  • When you do drugs

  • The European weather models have also been overstating severe weather

I really just think it’s as I said and nobody wants to be caught under predicting weather so they default to the worst values their models predict

  • It’s been like this for longer than Trump cut off access from one satellite

  • Yeah I’m not sure what reality that commentator lives in where it’s trivial for mothers to just abandon their children like it is for fathers to just walk out

The child support system has effectively substituted a dollar value for abandoned paternity but mothers do not have it is easy just because of the technical existence of safe haven laws

Let’s also not forget safe haven laws were essentially invented 20 something years ago and don’t exactly leave kids in a good position

  • Obviously anyone can you shouldn’t uncharitably assume absolutes just to argue strawman issues but fathers can leave before the child is even born

When there’s no father the mother is stuck with the child for having to physically give birth and then she can be charged with crimes for abandoning or caring for them improperly

He can leave the kid in a way that she cannot

  • It’s to prevent the following situation

A US citizen abandons their biological child and then show up at the last moment to help give them citizenship

The courts want to see a real father-child relationship not just simple blood relation

Mothers automatically pass citizenship because mothers can’t abandon their children they’re forced to raise them under penalty of state action while fathers can just leave lol

There are other rules for getting citizenship thru adoption

  • The *historical reason, however flawed

You know who the mom is she literally gave birth

You don’t know who the dad is until you do dna testing (also moms can’t really abandon their children like dads can)

  • I’m pretty sure enough of these moments is why we now have absolutely catastrophic weather forecasts every other week but they usually aren’t so bad

  • It’s always the people you most suspect (and who these idiots least expect go figure)

  • App based remote healthcare access (lack of insurance aside)

  • I enjoy rewatching reloaded the most

  • I once had a professor use an open curriculum for a specific thing only 1 publisher makes a book for

Like schools and professionals just buy the book for reference and it’s considered a standard field manual of sorts but there are a handful of essentially free/open compilations of the same material just not printed for sale

First time I had a professor actually tell us he was using a slightly inferior free resource to save us money and also because it’s essentially the same

  • Sometimes I had professors give us all readings for free including by scanning things themselves from the library and distributing paid journals they weren’t supposed to

Sometimes I had professors who wrote the textbook and demanded students buy the new edition every year for self enrichment

Sometimes I had professors who wrote the textbook but they’d tell us to buy the old ones cheap and then gave us free print outs of the newly added materials

    Professors are a mixed bag

  • I used to email everyone in class a copy of all the books I’d get off libgen/anna’s

    Knowledge is expensive

    Stupidity is free

    It shouldn’t be that way
