  • Robber-baron assholes aren't "nerds" just because the industry their business operates in is computer tech.

  • I can't find the clip online, but I learned it from an episode of Good Eats.

While looking for it, I ran across a different video from Alex "French Guy Cooking", who has an improved design. In it, he says he heard about the idea of using a chimney starter for wok cooking from Kenji Lopez-Alt, so that's at least three pretty-famous TV cooking people who endorse the idea.

  • My parents have moved from defending Trump to saying "I don't want to talk about it". They still have some bullshit ill-defined excuses not to vote Democrat, though.

They don't yet understand that the word for Germans who didn't like Hitler but couldn't bring themselves to support the opposition was still " Nazi."

  • You can also use a charcoal chimney starter for wok cooking.

  • My diesel car has run on B100 (100% biodiesel) just fine for years. That's already good enough and requires no new technology or infrastructure. Hydrogen is stupid as hell.

  • Both sides think the other is evil. Only one side is factually correct.

  • A bullshit excuse to pretend a leftist "can't win" even though South Carolina won't vote Democrat in the general regardless.

  • (Speaking as an early Millennial)

I have a gigantic cabinet in my dining room/kitchen (not much wall between them so it's kinda the same space). It's 8 feet tall, solid hardwood except for the glass doors, and was originally a built-in from a house in the next neighborhood over. They put it out on the curb and I saw it, hitched up my utility trailer, brought it home and installed it. Best curb find so far.

I use it as a pantry because my house small and doesn't have a closet-style pantry.

I also have a set of fine china that a friend gave me as a wedding present (even though we didn't have a gift registry), but the pattern isn't really our style and I've never taken it out of the box. I don't have plans to buy other fancy dishes, either. I'm very happy with my cheap Corelle (except for the fact that they discontinued the pattern and I wish I had more sets of it).

So, technically, I "have" both china and a china cabinet, but it is very much just a Boomer thing anyway.

  • Didn't they literally just finally get the electromagnetic catapults working correctly, years late and way over-budget?

I mean, criticism of the system was justified at one point, but throwing it out just after they finally sunk enough costs to fix it is the stupidest possible course of action. Yet again, it's as if Trump is a Manchurian candidate trying to US power on purpose.

  • Guess this is that small government the conservatives keep talking about.

It literally is. "Small government" is a euphemism for "let corporations get away with shit."

  • Nah, Biden's biggest mistake was undoubtedly appointing conservative do-nothing Merrick Garland instead of somebody who would actually do their fucking job and prosecute Trump's crimes.

Everything else is dwarfed in comparison to that. Biden is going to go down in history worse than Neville Chamberlain, as the President who let the fascists destroy the country on his watch and did fuck-all to stop them.

  • In some ways it kinda is, though. The point of ultra-processing is either (a) to make the food easier to eat, which can be bad because the hard-to-digest parts like fiber are important for health too or (b) make it taste better, which can be bad because it encourages overeating.

  • Well, he could have, up until the deadline the other day.

As for "legally," guess what: stopping him would require Mitch to file a lawsuit and show up to win the case, which is exactly the fucking point anyway! So the governor should absolutely gone ahead with the appointment regardless of whether it was "legal" and dared the GOP to object to it!

Like it or not, because of fuckheads like McConnell, this is how US politics works now. You have to try every dirty trick to gain advantage, or you lose to the other assholes who do.

  • There is a vacancy. If that's wrong, Mitch is welcome to prove otherwise.

  • Instead of sanctuary districts for dims we've got concentration camps for immigrants.

It's a cliche at this point, but I think that means we're in the mirror universe.

  • Star Trek Online is really scraping the bottom of the barrel on ship designs these days since seven years ago, apparently.

  • The Bell Riots were supposed to have happened two years ago.

  • Sure, you can live in the Star Trek universe. In 2026.

Enjoy the impending Eugenics Wars and Post-Atomic Horror.

  • Democracy relies on transparency and verification, not trust. Any government official who tries to keep secrets from the public is an enemy of the People.
