Between so much bullshit and disinformation floating around in general (especially against progressives/socialists), and remembering what happened to Al Franken in particular, it's all too conveniently-timed and politically-motivated for me to trust the accusations.

    I'm not going to go to bat for the guy (especially since it's a moot point now anyway, obviously), but I'm not going to join the character-assassination dogpile either.

  • I'm not sure you appreciate how literally technically correct you are.

    The harder you brake in the front, the more the weight shifts forward. At the point you start to do a stoppie -- when the front brakes are applying maximum force to the road -- the weight on the rear wheel drops to zero and thus the stopping force it's applying drops to zero as well.

    In other words, the rear brake gets less useful the harder you try to brake.

    For maximum deceleration, the main thing you need to do isn't to try to use the rear brake more, but instead get out of the saddle and stick your butt as far back as you can, shifting the weight back and making it as hard to get to that point of rear wheel liftoff as possible.

  • I've seen this headline, or one like it, a half-dozen times now, and it keeps feeling like propaganda because the emphasis is on the "police officers fired" part when it should be on the "using controversial mass surveillance cameras to spy" part. It's as if the message is "no really folks, Flock is OK because the people abusing it are being held accountable, pinky promise!"

    I don't like it at all.

  • The status quo has changed permanently. It doesn't matter what the US does; Iran now controls the strait and nobody can stop them from charging whatever tolls they want, only letting through ships for their allies, etc. Trump permanently ended the concept of freedom of navigation that Iran had previously abided by when he idiotically decided to attack them anyway, because Iran has zero reason to trust US diplomacy and respect for international law ever again.

    Not even because of the noise or heat or whatever; just because they only have a few employees and that's just bad urbanism. A data center is a hole in the urban fabric with no foot traffic.

    If you must have 'em, put 'em out in the middle of nowhere (but along the internet backbone fiber between cities).
