This regime is so far beyond the pale monstrous that it's hard even for people trying to criticize it to avoid accidentally carrying water for it though understatement. Hell, even "beyond the pale monstrous" isn't as emphatic as I should've been!
It is outrageous that he could be convicted on absolutely zero evidence beyond a username "match" anyway! This case had way more problems than just a damn typo!

It does not. Saying the BSD license gives more freedom because it lets developers choose to close up the code is like saying the Confederacy gave more freedom because it let white people choose to own slaves.
Because if literally every new car on the market is doing it, you don't have much of a choice.
(Okay, sure, you could resolve to drive old cars forever -- and that's what I do -- but let's not pretend that's possible for everyone. Even if people were willing and able to accept the maintenance/reliability/safety tradeoffs, which many are not, there simply aren't enough old cars for everybody to drive one.)
To be fair, it's not as if it supports languages other than fucking Javascript anyway, so it mostly doesn't matter.

The implementation was not questionable. The implementation was blatantly nefarious and he fucking knew it, because why else would he have tried to hide it?
That's roughly what I remember: the threats were against "zionists" or "genociders" or similar, not any particular user by name, but this guy basically told on himself by interpreting it personally anyway.
(It's possible I'm unaware of other, more egregious, behavior as the situation escalated, but I think this was at least the thing that started the pearl-clutching initially.)
Nah. The best an adult could do would be to pull out of the region, but even if the US did that, there is no way Iran willingly goes back to the previous status quo. Iran controls the strait and the oil flow now, and it knows it. It has absolutely no reason not to fuck with the world's oil supply at whim, whenever anybody does something it or its allies don't like.
This is just one of the many ways Trump has done permanent damage to the world that can't be undone even after he's out of office/imprisoned/dead.
Which is why allowing that sort of inference to be made, under any circumstances, is absolutely tyrannical.
