  • Neat lyrics (I love "welcome to the Internet"), a little off-topic though. Did Lemmy attach your comment to the wrong thread?

  • That would be the stupidest thing he could possibly do. He has absolutely nothing to lose by going for it as hard as he can.

  • My guess is that he intends to call for a special election* on Aug 2, once he doesn't get a response.

(* even though I claim that under the KY constitution, he doesn't have to and could just unilaterally appoint a replacement instead)

  • My Gigabyte "9070 XT GAMING OC 16G" has three 8-pin power connectors.

I slightly regret it because it's a 3-slot card and only has two DisplayPort outputs. I had to buy a new case for it, and my third monitor (on HDMI) doesn't behave quite as well as the other two. Almost a year and a half later and I'm still mildly annoyed that I didn't have the ability to return it in favor of a PowerColor Reaper once I realized my mistake.

I'm sure the Gigabyte card is fine if you have a normal size (not mini-ITX) case and only one or two monitors, though.

  • My biggest complaint about videos is simply that the fediverse hasn’t figured out a decent video hosting solution yet.

    https://joinpeertube.org/

  • I wish PeerTube was better (more content and easier to find it, especially across instances).

This is less reasonable, but it would also be really cool if trying to insert a video from Youtube or some other centralized site caused it to get reuploaded to a PeerTube instance running alongside the Lemmy (or other service, like Mastodon?) instance the post was in.

  • Q is not the Koala.

  • Nevermind his more recent boneheaded proclamation that masks don’t prevent disease spread.

That was an attempt to get people to stop hoarding masks so that there would be enough for hospital workers etc. until production had a chance to ramp up. Deliberately trying to mislead the public like that was a bad idea in retrospect, but the goal behind it was good.

  • Why would a Democrat governor voluntarily appoint a Republican Senator?

  • Not yet, but that's definitely the goal.

  • Were it not for the fact that it's the fucking privacy-invading big tech companies doing it, I would admit that there are good use-cases for the camera:

    • Reminding you of the name and possibly previous interactions with the person you're talking to, for instance (if it only did local lookup based on consensual photos you had previously added to your address book). I'm not face-blind or anything, but my memory is bad enough that that would be helpful to me.
    • Scanning, OCR-ing and making searchable any papers you're looking at (hooking to your selfhosted Paperless-NGX).
    • Displaying augmented-reality translations of street signs (which is one of the few reasonable things Google Glass actually did).
  • They don't have nearly enough battery life for that.

  • It would also be relatively appropriate for a 3D-printed concrete house, as it would be relatively easy to design the furniture as built-ins. Kinda like this, but, ya know, automated instead of handmade.

  • Probably under the assumption the data was deleted.

Which is why allowing that sort of inference to be made, under any circumstances, is absolutely tyrannical.

  • To be fair, you probably aren't using an 0.4*103mm nozzle.

  • True, but it's definitely part of the same drive towards automation and eliminating human workers.

The robots build the physical object; the AI controls the robots.

    FTFY, Esquire!

This regime is so far beyond the pale monstrous that it's hard even for people trying to criticize it to avoid accidentally carrying water for it though understatement. Hell, even "beyond the pale monstrous" isn't as emphatic as I should've been!
