  • Who said 100% was the goal? We don't ever have 100% guaranteed exploit free code, or 100% guaranteed spyware free code, etc. The point is you send a message and try your best if you think those are worthwhile goals to attain.

    The people saying "but we can't possibly stop all usage, so why try" aren't being pragmatic; imo they're giving up. My assumption is because they don't want to confront the nasty externalities of their own ai use.

    The same could be said of a lot of technologies that enable greater corporate capture at the expense of the environment and overall human wellbeing—and we should be doing something about those as well.

  • I have to tell you, I've read objectively bad writing and enjoyed it. As long as someone is trying to say something there will be a spark of that in their writing.

    And if you're an amateur you're only bound to get better.

  • Go to your settings > scroll down to "Show Scores" > uncheck all that shit. You don't need it. It's a vestigial dark pattern from commercial social media design to keep you checking how well your comments are "scoring" as if that made any sense.

    It should never have been surfaced to frontend of Lemmy.

  • Having done both, I feel like for writing you need to dig deeper. One is logical instead of narrative, but I'd say yeah there are similarities. They're both mentally and sometimes emotionally exhausting anyway.

  • That's a great idea. Reminds me of what Spec Ops: The Line was going for in a very small way. The game has a specific narrative that you can't diverge from like usual, and that's also part of the point, but you do have a couple moments where you can get creative about completing the "orders" the game is tacitly giving you.

    In game design terms, there are moments where you have more gameplay affordances than you might realise.

  • Ditto atheism. I don't believe in souls, afterlives, free will, any of it. But because I'm not constantly trying to debunk theists people have assumed I'm at least agnostic.

    Obviously as a solitary worker you're probably going to have a hard time standing up to your employer.

  • Tools are labour made solid. They're built by workers, and used by other workers in order to be more productive. Unlike a worker, a tool can be owned, which is why the owner class will always prefer more of the "skill" in production come from tools and processes, even at the cost of some craft or quality. Because they get more control.

    Anyway LLMs are like a knowledge tool in this case. A truly devastating weapon in the class war, assuming workers agree to adopt it and help improve it.

  • Yeah this goes for copyright protections too. I could give a fuck about some sloperater generating Tony Stark giving Mickey Mouse a handjob, but corpos saving even $0.01 from a model tuned by scraping deviantart, other amateur sources, I can't abide.
