  • I feel so dumb over here having paid off my current car and giving no subscription money to anyone to use all the features of my car. I'm a fool!

  • Yeah, I've not used Google Drive or Dropbox in years but have just let my data sit on their servers.

Now that all these companies want to scrape our files for AI bullshit it felt like a good time to remove it all.

  • Good luck with that.

    Signed,

A person who has recently started pulling all their files from cloud storage like Google Drive and Dropbox

  • Counterpoint: fuck off

  • points to head can’t have your data breached if you never used Instagram in the first place

  • Just what I want: file explorer to load even slower than it does now.

  • By the logic the government has tried to push on this murder, people should be able to shoot into the vehicles of ICE thugs when they try to drive through protest crowds. We've seen that on video plenty of times in the last year.

  • Last year they started that up.

They still have free articles, though, and they label them on the home page which are which.

  • Yeah, same.

It's not terrible, but it feels like it's slowly becoming worse as they add new garbage. And especially if they start forcing a bunch of AI shit I'm out.

But I think a lot of people brush it off outright without really using it. Or, because it's Lemmy, anything that's not linux = bad.

  • We always heard that this would be China’s century, and for the most part I assumed “maayybe. We’ll see. It’d take a while for the US to decline.”

Little did I know the US would very quickly shoot both its feet off on its own.

I thought that if China were to become the dominant country it’d be through years and years of steady growth while the US was doing the same. They’d just end up overtaking in the long run — not that the US would actively sabotage itself via bigotry and stupidity and greed.

Complete self own. And everyone in charge is a giant coward. We could start righting the ship today, but all the elected gop (and some dem) officials are greedy cowards.

  • I feel like I got my car at the perfect time:

It has Android Auto and CarPlay, and it's a manual so there's no way for it to turn on or off remotely.

Now I just have to make sure it survives until I die.

  • I totally forgot about this app because, well, it seemed pretty forgettable.

I'm also not in the target demo since I currently have my wallpaper set to whatever my phone wants to rotate in and out every hour from my Photos app.

  • I’m trying this app out now based on your comment, and so far it seems really nice. I may replace Voyager with it as well.

  • I had a bit of a breakthrough with some personal growth with my code today.

I learned a bit more about entity framework that my company is using for a project, and was able to create a database table, query it, add/delete/update, normal CRUD stuff.

I normally work mostly on front end code, so it was rewarding to learn a new skill and see the data all the way from the database to the UI and back - all my code. I felt great after doing a code review this afternoon to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, and we talked about some refactoring to make it better.

AI will never give you that.

  • You have to log in to your old Affinity account, and from there you can find the download links.

  • This is a good point. I'm going to download all the installers they have today and ferret them away just in case.

  • At least V2 still works and won't just disappear. You can still use those apps you bought.

But it's just sad to see this new path. I used to buy all the apps just because I liked the business model. I don't really ever use Publisher, but I bought it anyway.

Now...there's nothing that'll get me to use this "free" shit.

  • Just like every Android phone that comes pre-loaded with trash apps you have to delete.

  • This isn't my experience, and I had a iPhone 12 Pro up until a couple of weeks ago. Google Maps generally ran alright that I can remember.

On the newest phones it's really smooth, but those phones also have enough horsepower to make pretty much any app run smoothly.
