  • I don't care what his followers think, why can't we find a prosecutor who gives a shit?

  • give ammunition to people that claim the election results aren't reliable.

And then they'll say "Oh well, guess we'll just have to have our state legislature decide who won."

  • And 2000

  • Yeah, and Harris's endorsement of that horrifying border security bill is a pretty big deal too. Say what you will about these candidates approaches to immigration but there's no way you can say they're not talking about it.

  • Yeah, it really sucks how both sides have decided to go all in on this racist bullshit recently instead of standing up for asylum rights when global climate change is only going to be making them more vital

Even Harris’s immigration policies reflect this shift in rhetoric. Her focus on border enforcement and deterrence over more comprehensive immigration reform echoes Trump’s approach to securitize the border. Her controversial comments during a 2021 trip to Guatemala, where she told migrants, “do not come,” reinforced narratives that criminalize migration rather than address its root causes.

Harris’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, has said if elected, she would continue Joe Biden’s crackdown on asylum claims. Harris has also promised to revive a border security deal that collapsed in Congress earlier this year after Trump told Republicans to reject it. If passed, the legislation would have implemented permanent restrictions of asylum.

  • When you are charged as a juvenile your records are expunged upon turning 18

A lot of people think this but it isn't true. In Georgia (and most other states) you have to ask a judge to expunge your record and they have to give the prosecutor's office an opportunity to respond before the judge can decide if the person with the juvenile record has been rehabilitated and their record should be expunged. There's nothing automatic about the process.

  • Then it should be a very simple matter for her campaign to put out a statement expressing her support for Khan and Gensler

The Harris campaign didn’t provide a comment for this story.

  • there's a lot who sense their interests are diametrically opposed to the CEOs who've spent billions lobbying congress.

The donor class is willing to spend a lot of money to break those people and convince them that they'll only ever get oligarchic bullshit or the blatant incompetence and violent bigotry of Republicans from their government

I bet these donations were at least implicitly contingent on being publicly announced like this

  • This is something that needs to be said about all Republicans. Their party's been indulging in fascist politics since Goldwater ran on opposing the civil rights act six decades ago, but we keep pretending there are decent people with the intellectual capacity to serve in office who identify as Republicans anyway for some reason. The uncomfortable but simple fact is that there are only idiot Republicans who don't realize their party's continued existence is a threat to the country and evil Republicans who do, and neither should be in any kind of government office ever.

  • All this, minus the respect part. The only thing different between them and the MAGAs is they have the small amount of intelligence required to know that in the long term Trump is going to hold them back and diminish their own power. This does not change the fact that they have been, for decades of their adult lives now, members of a political party that's been implicitly and explicitly traitorous bigoted and anti-science since at least the mid 1960s.

  • So we're just not going to talk about all the bullshit thrown at gender affirming healthcare, drag, queer media in general, etc. over the past few years? The federal government has been slightly better in the smallest scale ways possible, but because of state governments and the courts life for LGBTQ people has been worse over the past four years (especially if you're stuck in a red state), and the Biden administration and Congressional Dems haven't done nearly enough to try to stop those things.

  • I can't for the life of me figure out why I'd want to be friends with scumbags. If we had a democracy in this country we wouldn't have to give a shit what rich weirdos who live vastly different lives than most of us think.

  • Oh I'm sure they exist, there's a lot of selfish scumbags in this country unfortunately. Thank goodness they only get one vote no matter how much money they hoard.

  • If Biden seriously made that offer in b) I would be very strongly tempted to stay home on election day.

People keep lying to themselves and trying to believe that Trump is the problem and that he's not just the most visible symptom of a Republican party that crossed the line way back in the 1960s when they started campaigning to get the KKK's votes and undermining our foreign policy/national security for political wins. Haley, Romney, Cheney, etc. - they are all threats to the country as is anyone who collaborate with any of them.

  • And when they completely ignore her request (that she's making knowing full well she has no leverage to make it happen) she'll keep being a member of the Republican party and keep raising funds for them anyway
