  • I feel like if this was just a GOP plot they would hold off until Swalwell won the primary and the Dems were stuck with him

  • Hasn't he taken AIPAC money?

  • It's more than allegations, this person worked for Swalwell, people saw them together, theres copies of texts they sent a friend at the time saying Swalwell assaulted them, and medical records showing this person got a pregnancy and STI test around that time too. It's circumstantial evidence and not smoking gun stuff, but it's more than just allegations.

  • Not really, could be that this person just hoped this would go away and tried to forget about it but when they saw his name in the news and realized he could become governor and do what they claimed he did to someone else they felt the need to act

  • I'm kinda tempted to whip out that community meme with a "human rights violations I can stand, but I draw the line at market destabilization!", but I'm pretty sure we're imprisoning and brutalizing more Latinos and other migrants than China is Uyghurs and other marginalized communities over there at this point

  • The first step of the campaign was getting the average person to hate "politics" "the government" "Washington dc" etc., vague ideas instead of specific people and policies

Then it's easy to sell people on the basic idea that "the government is too dumb and evil to help anyone even if it tried, but it can punish your enemies pretty good"

  • a) This headline forgets W losing Afghanistan

    b) Fuck Nixon, but Eisenhower deserves the blame for Vietnam (admittedly one of the reasons he did that was because he thought it would give him political cover to shut McCarthyism down, but still)

  • Doing nothing to stop it, cheering on Universities and police that beat and punished protesters, refusing to let Ruwa Romman or anyone else anti-genocide speak at their convention, etc.

Their policy was bad and they were assholes about it at every opportunity. It's honestly amazing she got as many votes as she did.

  • Me neither, I feel like all the publications talking about how it's so popular are gaslighting me or being taken by some bullshit bottled streaming numbers

  • Did it? I mean, it may have bought President Pedo the couple of months he needed to win an election against a historically awful opponent, but given his 32% approval rating and being stuck in a war that was supposed to distract from the detention camps that were supposed to be a distraction from the tariffs that were supposed to be a distraction from DOGE which was supposed to be a distraction from the pedophilia, I think it's fair to say that buying a mouthpiece isn't a durable solution to the problem of being objectively stupid

  • Doesn't seem to be what this article says

To some readers, even choosing Outlook as a part of a spacecraft’s communications portfolio would seem to be an anomaly. However, it is a standard part of the "Commercial Off-The-Shelf" (COTS) software astronauts use for their day-to-day operations.

To be clear, the spacecraft and primary flight systems will run on specialized radiation-hardened hardware and rigorously maintained software. COTS just complements this with a friendly layer, like Windows and Outlook, so astronauts can check schedules, indulge in personal communications, and so on, in a familiar way.

Sounds like Microsoft products are running on the same hardware as critical systems are

  • He wanted to do good things, but when he found out the school system was in a massive amount of debt and that the only way to keep the city running without doing extreme austerity would have been to take a bail out from the state that would've hurt his campaign for governor, he did the extreme austerity and let the city suffer instead of sacrifice his personal ambitions

  • Kind of an empty news story when DOJ is simultaneously fighting over half the states in court to even get this data in the first place and likely to lose that fight, but I'm not surprised CBS is pretending this is a done deal to scare people away from voting

  • It's not relevant until it is. Self described democracies that are unable to respond to popular sentiment get unstable.

  • Exactly. It's anecdotal but most people I have met in my American life are quietly good people. Their biggest problem is finding the courage to speak up when a loud jerk is doing their thing.

  • I know there are some members of this community who are at least as surprised that anybody living in Arkansas has a moral compass

  • I think it's less a matter of people clinging to anything than just not knowing what to do because of everything you mention in that final paragraph. I think more people are willing to sacrifice for a greater good than is commonly realized, but nobody wants to sacrifice themselves for nothing, and that's almost certainly what would come from trying to take forceful action at this point. I sympathize with being deeply frustrated, but honestly I think the best thing a good comrade can do for the revolution right now is to try to survive for long enough for a better opportunity to present itself.

  • So it costs the Pentagon $435 to purchase a $15 hammer, maybe, but it all depends on which numbers they choose to present because their accounting practices are a total mess. Yay?

  • I would include these CEOs of private prison companies in the group of grifters who need some sort of criminal punishment, but if they're willing to give testimony against the government officials they worked with some sort of leniency may be appropriate.

It's all awful, but in terms of the scale of awfulness the systematic human rights abuses are worse than the graft imo.
