I can’t imagine his mother could be proud of this version of her son. I hope she’s disappointed as hell, not because she deserves it, but so he has to at least face that reality, because whatever bug-eye inducing, drug-fuelled, taxpayer-funded fever dream he’s living isn’t anyone else’s reality (no one with a soul anyway)

  • In Australia school age kids (early/mid teens) often do “work experience” in their school holidays or after school. They approach local businesses they might have some kind of interest in learning and spend that time unpaid and helping out. You get exposed to how a business works, prob have to do the boring or messy scut work, but that’s part of it; and when they finish up if they had a good attitude and were productive and worked hard - it can many times turn into a part time job. At the least you could get a written reference from them about your time there, and use that to start building out your CV and help you get a job elsewhere. It’s also great for helping you work out what you might like to do moving forward. At the least if your home dynamic isn’t always great and your folks can be a bit overprotective - it’s a structured way for you to spend some time out of the house that they may find more reasonable and be more comfortable with than your going out and just getting a job. They need to transition into you getting older and more independent too.

  • Oh crikey - I def didn’t drink the flavor-aid. I bought the printer, I’m using it stock with BS to start with and so far it seems acceptable to me. I loved orca and am very willing to make environment changes the moment this setup doesn’t meet my needs. I’m just pleasantly surprised that it’s not the all-but-guaranteed shit show the transition was made out to be.

    For a philistine member of the proletariat like me - just wanting to fix shit that’s broken or bust out practical shit - it fits the bill for me. It’s not a McLaren, I bought the Hyundai.

    Same page with local LAN mode and non-Bambu filaments. I want the outcome not the process.

  • Thanks! I understand that by introducing the AMS (which I may like to do) I take the hardware’s necessary firmware to a point of excluding Orca. On a stock standard print with a few basic edits I was pleasantly surprised by Bambu. If the use case arises I’ll downgrade the firmware and run orca but for my current purposes I think this lego-style ui will fit most of my use-cases.

  • Hey friend! I was genuinely surprised when there was a seemingly prevailing preference between the two stables. I had never used 3D printers before and I was blown away by how easy the ender was to use. No shade at all.

    I was really gobsmacked to experience the marked increase in built in “nice to have”/“QA features that I hadn’t experienced the first time round. I had no reason to upgrade from the ender based on my experience. It was no longer available to me and I had to buy my own and as a result of said research - the A1 has really impressed me.

    Horses for courses. If I hadn’t now used the A1, I’d have no reason to be discontent.

    I’m sure another model will come along at some point that makes me want to jump up another level.

    In all honesty, the ender was great, made sense, I was learning it and it did what I expected and wanted… the difference is I’ve learned there is more available.

    No complaints about the ender at all - I just realised, through a transition that wasn’t by choice, that there was something (on initial impression) that outclasses it.

    If I hadn’t lost the ender, I may never have looked at something else.

I think a lot of people have pinned their hopes on the contents of the files being so heinous that they will be the one thing that can dethrone trump and alienate him from his base. I’m not sure they’re right but I can’t fault folks for seeking something to keep their hope alive.

  • Australia has ranked choice voting but to deal with the inevitable cavalcade of candidates, the process and parties are prepared and offer cheat sheets for their ideologically aligned supporters who are lazy, apathetic or conscientious but less than ideally informed. A candidate and/or their party (there are many, many minority parties) will hand out “How to vote” pamphlets which basically explains to supporters who wish to vote for them, how they recommend ranking the other parties (or candidates for Independents) in the race. In the AUS version of the House of Reps they do this per candidate (many fewer options).

    For the senate race with many times more candidates, they have a split on the voting form with a line drawn between the top and bottom of the ballot. Above the line the parties are listed and below the line, each candidate from each party is listed. States all get 12 senators with half up for election each cycle. Ie in an election 6 senators per state are being chosen. There may be 10 or 12 or more columns to choose from but since only 6 senators are getting elected, in order to cast a vote one can number at least 6 parties in order of preference ABOVE the line, or BELOW the line, you may select at least 12 of the potentially dozens of candidates.

    Basically it helps your average Joe Blow navigate the process if they have a general alignment with at least one of the parties, or often people find themselves ranking backwards based on the lesser of evils.
