  • I love my Qidi XMax 3. I've basically only needed to change my z offset a handful of times and it just slams out prints. It's got a slightly larger build volume and runs Klipper out of the box.

Could be an option worth considering if you're looking for a printer that you can set up and run and don't need anything particularly fancy that just kinda goes.

  • My X Max 3 kicks ass. My Ender 3 v3 SE was awful.

  • Oh that's a fair shout too! Yeah it'd be easy to cook your spool haha

  • If you have a plastic tub roughly the size of a spool, you can flip it over on top of a spool and run your bed heater underneath it. Is it perfect? No. But you can get some of that drying capability for very little in terms of money.

  • I typically use my browser for PDFs. Firefox actually has some basic PDF edit functionality now.

  • I just picked up a Max 3, and yeah, after a quick calibration, it's been rock solid. I picked mine up for about $650.

  • Oh, I am right there with you. I don't want to write tests because they're tedious, so I backfill with the AI at least starting me off on it. It's a lot easier for me to fix something (even if it turns into a complete rewrite) than to start from a blank file.

  • I've used them for unit tests and it still makes some really weird decisions sometimes. Like building an array of json objects that it feeds into one super long test with a bunch of switch conditions. When I saw that one I scratched my head for a little bit.

  • Hoo boy I had it going way too fast. I had it moving at 150mm/s. I very strongly suspect this is about 90% of my problem. Layer quality already seems vastly improved a few layers in at 50mm/s. I very much appreciate the insight!

  • I haven't run PLA on this printer. This is actually my second one, I modded my first one to the point of unusability. Maybe starting back with PLA is a good idea.

  • I'll try dropping temps and see what I get. Thank you!

  • I haven't had issues with curling but the enclosure is pretty new. The room is pretty variable with temps. The windows are old and maybe a little leaky.

  • Word. I'll give that a go, thank you.

    (Troubleshooting) Advice for improvement

  • They're sequential, so the values above and below yours are valid SSNs of people born in the same hospital around the same time.

This would make it trivially easy to get access to records you shouldn't

  • I built myself a 400x400x500 CoreXY machine from scratch.

Honestly, my prints are dogshit unless I go slow, and then sometimes they're dogshit anyway. I have found the entire exercise as one of futility and massive frustration... but I low key love fucking with it. I can't help myself, I keep building upgrades and improvements for it. I keep sinking time and energy I don't have (and cash that I do) into this fucking heap of shit and I can't help but love it to pieces. It's dumb as fuck and it's pretty fun to work on.

Honestly the vibes are about the same for a project car. Don't daily it or you will hate yourself, but if you put it together and tune it right, you'll have a blast.
