  • Ignoring the top education democrat too:

Bobby Scott, the top Democrat on the education committee, criticized the bill as unnecessary and potentially in conflict with first amendment protections of protest.

“No college or university has embraced the BDS movement anyway. So, we should combat antisemitism wherever it occurs, but we should not do so by punishing protected speech or conflating a student’s view with university policies,” he said. • The quote literally has a newspaper article from 1909 talking about jay walkers. Jaywalking may have been boosted by the auto industry but it wasn't invented by them.

  • Your own source disproves your post title

    Wikipedia

While jaywalking is associated with pedestrians today, the earliest references to "jay" behavior in the street were about horse-drawn carriages and automobiles in 1905 Kansas: "jay drivers" who did not drive on the correct side of the street.[1] The term swiftly expanded to pedestrians, and by 1909, The Chanute Daily Tribune warned "The jay walker needs attention as well as the jay driver, and is about as big a nuisance."

  • WASHINGTON, July 13 (Reuters) - The Trump administration's Department of Health and Human Services has rescinded a $10 billion freeze on child care subsidies and ‌social services funding for five states governed by Democrats after legal obstacles got in the way of the freeze attempts, court records[https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.655886/gov.uscourts.nysd.655886.119.2.pdf], showed on Monday. Here are details:

    • The Department of Health and Human Services communicated to officials in California, Illinois, Colorado, New York and Minnesota that it was rescinding its January 5 and January 6 letters to the states, including all data requests and information requirements associated with those letters.
    • A legal filing on Monday released the communication, which said that the mechanism that ‌the department used to enforce the temporary restricted drawdowns has been terminated.
    • A federal judge blocked the move earlier this year for the duration of a lawsuit against the freeze brought by the states. Republican President Donald Trump has threatened to freeze federal funding for universities, research institutions and states over a range of issues.
    • These include fraud claims, climate initiatives, diversity programs, transgender policies and pro-Palestinian protests against U.S. ally Israel's assault on Gaza.
    • Rights advocates say the measures violate free speech and due process rights.
