It does depend on the type of sensor, the comment above was close but a bit incomplete/imprecise. Many modern sensors use a technique called binning where the final image's pixels are calculated by combining a 2x2 grid of sensor pixels via some signal processing, halving resolution in both dimensions but improving sensitivity and allowing for many DSP-based capabilities; whether they are actual improvements over the raw image is implementation-dependent and partially subjective. When shooting at 2x digital zoom though, you bypass the binning and use the sensor pixels directly, resulting in an image with the same "true" (non-upscaled) resolution as a 1x shot, minus the signal processing. Any other digital zoom, whether between 1x and 2x or above, is indeed a crop of a larger image.
If they mostly use their account to repost things from other platforms if they were not previously posted in the community, I'm OK with that, as long as there is a "quality" filter, especially if it is subjective. Then we can vote on it as we do for any other and if it was a shit post it will be buried.
You may spend enough time on Reddit to instantly spot reposts and be annoyed by it, but I don't. How do you see limiting the amount of potential entertainment and discussion that I can get on Lemmy a positive for it? Is your position that if something is already posted on Reddit, I should go there to interact with it?

Edit: on further thought, even if communities end up with a lot of "copied" posts, why would that be bad? I don't want to go on Reddit to comment on it. I am not even aware it was posted on reddit because I have not opened that domain in years if not by web search. Users are what make communities more than the posts themselves, so if someone wants to share something for any reason, I don't care if it came from reddit. I don't care if it came from 4chan. I am here to engage with the contents of the post, its poster, and the rest of this community. This kind of meta-discussion about what other servers this collection of bytes has been on previously is pointless at best, and empty virtue signaling at worst.
Doesn't change the fact that if tomorrow trump wakes up and decides that they too provide services to "antifa terrorists" they could suffer the same fate.
The bigger part of this story, to me, is how everything (notably the DNS serverHold and termination of their bank account) happened without any judicial involvement. No court or judge ordered PIR or Banca Etica to act, yet they did, on nothing more than their inclusion on that list - and very earnestly, as its deadline was the 25th of September. There is nothing that could prevent the same happening to any service
