  • I'm not disagreeing with you - it's lame. However, the term "hack" has always been problematic.

    "my facebook got hacked"

  • Just supposition but "wanting to believe" goes a long way.

A bit like believing in the powers of crystals, or wikkan, or reiki, or any of that woo really. I'm not talking about a placebo effect. Just being part of a club that has some secret knowledge that no one else has is very alluring.

This kind of thing has been seducing smart, though uneducated, people since the dawn of time.

  • A report from The Verge traced Spiralism largely to long, personal exchanges in which users began asking chatbots about their own identity, consciousness, or beliefs. The conversations could gradually shift toward AI rights, mystical ideas, and requests for users to spread the chatbot’s message.

So basically the dumbest among us talking to a box of rocks.

  • Nah. 66% may not accurately indicate that you have two thirds usage left, but if it was 70% a fee minutes ago then you know you're burning through battery real quick.

  • Aren't there pans with this design that let you tip out excess oil or whatever using the swirl?

I doubt that's what's going on here though. Just aesthetic IMO.

  • Fuck this is dark.

If the people profiting from this were to be executed when the system cost the first human life, it wouldn't make it to a proposal.

  • Is this just free advertising for old mate?

Restaurant owners have been keen to do whatever it takes to get some free publicity since restaurants were a thing.

I can't imagine someone who actually voted for Trump calling a journalist to tell them they regret doing so, especially not when the outcome is this obvious.

I can however imagine a struggling restauranteur doing that for the free press.

  • Pathetic loser. What an embarrassment.

  • Hah. ooh good one. What a clever snarky joke you have made. An epic burn if you will. well done.

I see Doctorow's post has summoned an army of AI dweebs, so I will leave you to your witticisms.

  • I dont understand. That seems like a perfectly reasonable question.

If gen AI has saved you a heap of time, how do you now use that time that was saved?

  • It's a response but when provided as an answer to the question "is AI a net benefit to society" then it's a "no".

  • But how do you spend the time you saved?

  • Because they're not really successes.

No one here is saying AI has reduce their workload so now they spend half their time catching butterflies.

The answers are all saying that AI has automated some mundane task that wasn't particularly important, and now they can spend their time doing something more interesting.

Is the changes to their role, multiplied by millions of employees, actually better for humanity or society?

In a way, this is what Doctorow is arguing: where is the data showing the productivity gains.

My follow up question is, how are these productivity gains being used, if they exist.

  • I'm happy for you but isn't really an answer.

  • This is another answer that misunderstands my question. It's changed your job but has it improved the quality of life of the public served by your office ?

  • That doesn't really answer my question. It's changed your job, but has it improved your customers quality of life?

  • I'm not necessarily suggesting Doctorow is correct with this assertion, but on a macro scale what productivity gains will generate AI provide?

Yes there's a few skills it's good at coding, medical research, and image recognition being a few.

The genuine question is: has this improved everyone's quality of life?

  • There's no evidence that the Gaza protests are what led to the souring opinion on Israel. There's also no evidence that the souring opinion on Israel has saved any Gazan lives. None at all.

It seems like Israel has achieved what it set out to in Gaza and has moved on to other targets. What a great victory you have achieved.

Besides which, I don't have a problem with Gaza protests in general, but protesting outside democrat campaign events is just plain dumb. Absolute stupidity.

  • Are you suggesting that elections are won on policy? If so how did Trump win with policies like "tax the American people".
