  • Yeah, I gave my dad my old pixel and put a launcher on it, locked down the settings so it wouldn't get accidentally changed to small fonts and just had a few apps, phone, text, email, door dash. That worked except the time he forgot to charge it but I think he knew I would come over more when I couldn't call him.

  • If it's just to make calls I would go used android, big screen and a special launcher that simplifies it and makes text big for typing in numbers. I see the Bluetooth landline phone things have bad reviews but most are from 4 years ago and say to go SIP if you want an actual handset.

  • I'll have to give that a look. I spun up immich to replace Google photos but I can't fully switch over till I have them in a cloud backup. Everything else is config/docker files that are small.

  • Backup as a zip? Small files warped up in one big file. Only backup what you can't restore from somewhere else. I think B2 can ship you a HDD to restore from if I remember correctly.

  • Glad to hear, the ones doing the work now will get more recognition and the one leaving can do more of what they want. Hopefully they had a good handoff.

  • There is still transcoding done thru the server, maybe depending on the app but the ones that use livekit it would.

  • Hosting costs money, maybe if you disable voice, video, uploads, and only allowed text it would be manageable but discord is free. I run my own chat server but it's only for like 10 people.

  • Yeah, they are still using other companies models but it's self hosted on our own hardware. I treat it as a Google search most of the time better but sometimes it gives me a GitHub link that never existed or a command option that exists for a different cli tool but not the one I'm using.

  • I never have ai connect to my code, even the one corporate runs. I'll use it for rubber duck debugging but don't trust it to have direct access.

  • Yeah, when I play tested games game when I was younger it was a part of it. I'm fine with telemetry if it's only used for testing, fixing issues, game balance, ect. When it's used for selling stuff or tracking me across the Internet or irl is where I have an issue.

  • I do wonder what the point of supporting and keeping things in newer Linux when it hasn't been touched in over 10 years.

  • The population that voted for them even though it hurts them are still at fault, even if they didn't write the billionaire backed legislation.

  • Hard disagree, look at all the videos where Republicans agree with policies if they think they are from their party but not the other way around. Some people are not capable of critical thinking and need to be guided to the right answer and avoid "scary" words.

  • It's using oppressor verbage to steer folk away from voting for them.

  • Autofill, easy sync, password generation, browser extension, mobile app, ease of use to name a few.

  • Naww, take back the country from the Nazis.

  • Same, my ISP offers 8gb symmetrical but it's basically their business plan for like $500 a month. I was able to max out my NVME drive downloading games though on the 2gb plan.

  • As a whole they are rotten from the beginning like all the other agencies. Hell even the army core of engineers poisoned citizens with radiation on purpose in inner cities.
