  • On iOS parental controls let you choose to manage the child’s contacts. So they can only communicate with anyone you put in there. You can also block communication in apps. You can also block unapproved websites or let Apple block the ones in its list. You can set age restrictions on everything. You can be pretty heavy-handed if you want to. You can also buy the kid a dumb phone.

    He may as well be saying that he needs to put cameras in every car to verify that kids are wearing seatbelts if they’re in the car. That would likely reduce more harm than this, but it’s also more obvious what the problem is.

  • Moderation systems on social media platforms aim to remove overt extremist propaganda. These systems work imperfectly, but overt propaganda is unlikely to reach mass audiences before being removed.

    Instead, far-right actors often use generative AI to mask racial ideology behind seemingly benign tropes from science fiction and fantasy. This allows a “de-demonising” of their ideas. Elf-like depictions of the “Aryan” inhabitants of Agartha, or footage of an underground utopia, make the idea of a white ethnostate seem palatable.

    The engaging aesthetic keeps people watching longer. In turn, this triggers the algorithm to push the video to wider audiences.

  • I used to live there and the NHS wait times were lower than any I had in the U.S. with insurance. Probably depends on the area, and I’ve heard it’s worse than it used to be because the conservatives keep expecting them to do more with less.

    There’s also no wasted time. If your appointment was at 9:30, you’d be called in almost right at 9:30. If you’re called into a room, you’re not going to sit there waiting for a nurse to come take your blood pressure and ask what’s happening so they can relay it to the doctor. When you’re done with the doctor, you leave. You don’t have to go pay or wait for someone to check your finances or any of that.

    And their health insurance is better because it has to at least offer something the NHS doesn’t.

  • I don’t really see how it affects autism. I guess maybe ABA? I don’t know of any current treatments for it. If anyone’s making real money off of autism, it’s probably fidget toy and earplug manufacturers, and maybe some influencers. If there were serious money to be made then some big companies would likely be pushing back against a lot of the BS lately, but mostly it’s governments + news media (generally right wing) vs independent or small voices.
