    You can have political / economic union but cultural diversity. In fact you can even have political and legal diversity among the subdivisions. There already are a bunch of countries that work like this, such as Malaysia, Nigeria and Belgium.

There are weird rules and prohibitions, and I've heard of a ban on transgender users (but that might have been reversed since).   • Lemmy is a software; there are multiple instances (servers) that run lemmy and federate (talk) to each other. So it does not sanitise your feed the way corporate social media does. The advantage is that you do not end up in an echo chamber. The downside is that you get the weirdest and most incoherent conspiracy theories known to man. But you're (hopefully) an adult, and can use your reason to decide what's what.

  • I would have used WiFi on my phone perhaps two or three times in the last year. My home does have a router, because we're dinos, but most new houses don't since everyone has a smartphone anyway.
