  • yes, but it is can be a larger than usual problem in some groups.

    I know anime conventions in Minnesota struggled with that a lot in the 2000s. It took about half a decade of posters, campaigns, and a small group of people who were willing to be blunt and tell people "this sign is directed at you my dude"

    It all did lead to improvements though! It is vastly better than it was back then.

    Alternatively there was the MTG asscrack meme which did increase belt sales.

  • I have been voting in Minnesota since 2009, I have never been called for jury duty.

    Meanwhile I have a coworker who has been called 5 times in the same time span.

  • Well, the rules are forcing them to run with Mamdani. Plenty of Democratic lawmakers do not like it. Cory Booker, Chuck Schumer, a lot of democratic legislators in his own state are not endorsing him. A lot of them did endorse Cuomo, if they didn't this year, they have in the past, so to be suddenly mum and not even a feeble "I support him" is... odd at best.

    There's also no word behind the scenes that any legislators are even attempting to get Cuomo to drop out after... how many years has the argument been that third parties split the democratic vote? Now you have a Democrat doing just that and no condemnation from any new York legislators that he's risking a republican victory. Not even a chant of "Blue no matter who" If bernie sanders had ran independent against Hillary, would Democratic leaders be this silent? Schumer would be furious and making press conferences condemning him. He doesn't do that to cuomo.

    In the meantime, multiple sources have been pushing mayor Adams to step down from his own independent race. Both democratic and republican (and billionaire), presumably to get more votes to cuomo.

  • I drink with friends, I don't smoke but I do hang out in the smoking areas though.

    I wouldn't say it's unusual. Can't say there was much peer pressure to get me to start drinking. It just was an easy conversation starter. "Whatcha drinking?"

    I think it's also one of the reasons smoking starts so easily. It's a really easy conversation starter. Gotta light?

    It's not bad that the next generations are doing it less, but it does suck that they haven't been replaced with a new conversation starter.

  • That's kinda how he works.

    He's a "better politician" than the other much older politicians because he can explain the problems and blame Republicans and old politicians for the problems but ultimately his solutions are the same.

    Also he comes straight from private equity and refuses to say anything bad about them. As a matter of fact he's the first politician I have ever heard say "no". Full stop, no weaseling out of it. It was when he was asked about his prior employers and their involvement in a price fixing scandal over Canadian bread prices.

    So... yeah I don't like him

  • I once had a study partner who was raised like that. We were scheduling our first after school study session and trying to figure out time. I shoot out sunday and he goes "nah I have church, wait don't you have church?" "nah, I'm an atheist"

    dude vanished. Three days later I notice him trying to like... hide in a hoodie towards the opposite side of the class. I walk over, worried I offended him or something. He basically tells me that he can't interact with satanists and I just go "look, if you don't wanna interact with me, don't. You don't have to hide in a corner or try to avoid me. If you wanna draw the line at just existing in the same room, ok then."

    To his credit, he did try to have a study session with me after that, but I had to end it early. The dude was so on edge, it was like he was convinced I was gonna stab him at any moment.

    Years later he contacted me to apologize out of the blue on facebook. Went completely off grid traveling the world. My guess trying to compensate for just how little he knew of it.

  • Like, the most devils advocate I can be for her vote is that she's arguing that we shouldn't take away their shield, we should take away their spear.

    To which... I still don't see the logic. Because if you can block with one hand you're free to stab with the other. If all you have is stabby implements, you got no way to deal with when they stab back.

    They'd be forced to be less aggressive, which they seem intent to be.

  • I'm currently sitting in a modern car dealership and ever single chair SUCKS. Modern chairs are hard, low backed, have funky angles, and if they are high backed, it's to give this half assed sense of privacy that just isn't there.
