  • Not the same issue. Wayland was needed because xorg architecture just cannot be backwards compatible and would be super difficult risky to retain legacy. Not the same issue here

  • Bet they are not starting fresh. Instead of using 35 year old code base they are using 20 year old code base.

  • Nextcloud is free software (aGPL v3) though so your worries are very misleading.

  • The photo coverage of the protests is incredible - really creative stuff leading to awesome shots for future history books.

  • I have a native meadow lawn and it's awesome. Zero maintenance, barely any watering (just peak dry season) and incredibly beautiful. The ecosystem takes care of itself as long as you don't buff one side by accident.

  • Good point and a market squeeze can move them to more electricity efficient remote areas like the deserts. Fuck off there lol

  • Bernie just did a YouTube video talking with Claude about this and it's good

    https://youtu.be/h3AtWdeu_G0

It did change my opinion on the subject primarily from the pov that a bit of wait is good in corrupt systems as it allows justice to catch up and datacenters are not critical infrastructure - we can shop around.

  • There's difference between making an encryption tool and hiring top psychologists to design abusive systems.

  • What actually might help: hold people who design these tools criminally liable. Everyone knows what they are doing but you can't really say no to your employer because "don't worry you're not liable" so everyone continues on building the Torment Nexus.

  • Out of the loop:

The systemd project merged a pull request adding a new birthDate field to the JSON user records managed by userdb, in response to age verification laws in California, Colorado, and Brazil.

Lennart Poettering clarified that this is an optional field in the userdb JSON object — not a policy engine, not an API for apps. It just defines the field so it's standardized if people want to store the date there, but it's entirely optional. Systemd itself does nothing with the data.

    What a nothing burger

  • inb4 guy turns out to be a major sex offender and/or a pedophile

  • Charlie: Erika got you too huh?Guy: She serves nasty spin yeah

  • Once I joined a company with "unlimited paid time off" and turned out it was more like "no time off and maybe check some things on the weekends". They also fired me day before my equity should have hit then had the audacity to ask me to organize macbook return - it's still gathering dust on my shelf lol

Either way I still got paid a lot of money and it was a good learning though more in life lessons rather than professional experience.

  • Nah mate screen is awesome outside except most people are stuck on macbooks that are simply unusable due to extreme screen glare.

  • Funny how Google couldn't defeat seo spammers and yet claim they can keep AI safe. We are so fucked

  • It's true organic growth is basically dead. There's very little reason to share expert insights now and while the old system sucked due to seo gaming but there was some actual value there even if buried deep.

  • People delude themselves if they think LLMs are not useful for coding. People also delude themselves that all code will be AI written in the next 2 years. The reality is that it's incredibly useful tool but with reasonable limits.
