  • I hate to be "that guy" but in theee cases, it just makes more sense to have some extraneous labeling rather than have special clauses in the regulation dictating when it's obvious enough that the label can be omitted.

    Keeping the rules as simple as possible reduces the chances of loopholes and ambiguity, at the expense of sometimes resulting in things like a jar of peanut butter stating "contains peanuts" on the label.

  • I don't have specific troubleshooting advice to give, but I have been using an Nvidia Shield Pro as my main streaming device for about 4 years now. It is overpriced for what it is, but it has been rock solid for streaming via both Jellyfin and Plex.

    The official Jellyfin app is definitely not as polished as Plex, but it has consistently worked for me on the Shield.

  • I used to work with a Ukranian coworker, who had so little of an accent that I often forgot he was not a native English speaker.

    One time during a meeting, I mentioned "there's more than one way to skin a cat" and I can still picture the horrified look on his face when he processed what I just said.

    In all fairness, it's a pretty morbid expression!

  • That could be it. It was a turbocharged compact (back before literally everything was a 4cyl turbo), though not externally very flashy. So maybe he was just one of those guys who sported a perpetual hste-boner for imports.

  • Probably 15 years ago while on a freeway interchange, some guy behind me on a cloverleaf whipped past after we merged onto the freeway then slowed down in the left lane to match the speed of a semi. It was clearly intentional as the road was otherwise relatively empty and he kept pace with the truck for a good 10 miles, blocking me in.

    To this day I have no idea what his problem was, and part of me feels bad for him because... what normal happy person just randomly takes time out of their day to fuck with someone to thay extent!? But I remember it clearly, so it obviously pissed me off to a degree, yet it feels really petty to still think about it, so idk.

    Honestly with the price of refurb enterprise drives, it's really hard not to justify not going that route and just keeping a spare drive formatted on warm standby at all times.

    A bit of a digression though, since OP isn't looking to cram a bunch of drives into an old mini case.

    I've purchased refurb drives from both them and GoHardDrive.com. So far I'm 5/5 for a mix of Exos and HGST Ultrastar drives working perfectly out of the box.

    Anytime these drives pop up on Slickdeals, the thread is full of 3 types of people: People who have never bought a refurb/recert drive but insist they are all going to burn your house down, people who have bought several with no issue, and people who have received a failing drive that the seller promptly replaced.

  • I actually prefer it the way it's executed.

    Maybe I'm thinking way too much about this, but each panel obviously takes some time amount of time to draw, and likewise each panel portrays some finite amount of time--not just an instant snapshot of the story. So as the dog is yelling at him, his drawing quality is degrading as he is working on the panel, leading to an inconsistent quality within the panel.

  • To add, there is something about those old 40s and 50s era technical films like you linked that is just so... I don't what exactly it is, but I find them fascinating and genuinely informative, even though they are explaining tech that is decades obsolete.

    It's pretty awesome that they are still available 70+ years later in excellent quality!

  • That's honestly why they creep me out the most. Spiders will generally be chilling out in a corner somewhere you expect to see them, doing their own thing, and not moving much unless directly disturbed.

    Most of my experiences with centipedes involves them darting out from under a baseboard at night and scaring the shit out of me when I'm only half awake. Then by the time I realize what it was, it's already scrambled across the floor to disappear under some other piece of furniture.

  • It's bit reductive to put it in terms of a binary choice between an average human driver and full AI driver. I'd argue it has to hit less pedestrians than a human driver with the full suite of driver assists currently available to be viable.

    Self-driving is purely a convenience factor for personal vehicles and purely an economic factor for taxis and other commercial use. If a human driver assisted by all of the sensing and AI tools available is the safest option, that should be the de facto standard.
