It sounds to me like he's just positioning himself to control an AI tech provider who will conveniently be contracted to replace all the government positions he is trying to eliminate.
I just saw few dozen identical comments with a bunch of upvotes, so the idea of people randomly dogpiling one single comment for no apparent reason struck me as funny!
I seem to recall a subreddit like that... chains of identical one word posts, 20 comments deep, all with a hundred upvotes... and one poor dude with like -1000.
Scanning this thread though, I was kinda hoping there would be one single "Fuck ICE" comment amongst the rest, that was randomly downvoted to oblivion for no apparent reason.
Hard agree. My mom is not the most politically literate person, and never cared much about tech, EVs, or space flight, but this summer out of nowhere she started talking about how great this Musk guy was and all his business accomplishments.
The Trump voters have been have been fully prepped on how to feel about Elmo for quite some time now.
Not to single you out, but I have noticed a lot of people having a hard time picking up sarcasm lately, and obvious satire/sarcasm getting downvoted to oblivion.
Like I get that hackles are raised as fuck right now, but I don't quite get the connection...?
Exactly, it's a unit of convenience, not a unit of abstract precision.
Even a unit of "gallons/sqft" could be handy in the right context. If you were trying to design a storage solution for discretely packaged product for example, it could be a figure of merit despite literally factoring out to a unit of length.
Honestly, and I think this is part of what the comic is getting at, spending money to buy a new shiny can deliver a hit of dopamine at the moment. But once that hit fades, a variety of other feelings about that purchase can set in.
So it's not as simple as whether buying something makes you happy, it's whether the act of purchasing the thing, experiencing the newness, actually owning and using the thing, all bring you happiness. And on top of that, whether the things you could have bought instead would bring you more happiness.
I actually relate pretty hard to this, if it's not obvious lol
Same here. I normally have qbittorrent running 24/7, but typically shut it down and grab a different VPN server once or twice a week. It seems to affect uploads more than downloads though.
Stuck torrents aren't really a huge deal for me, because I've usually got at least a couple weeks worth of backlog. But it is frustrating when I pop open the client and see like 3Gb of upload activity that day, when I have hundreds of things seeding.
There was a local comic book store called (no shit) The Funk Pit, which kept the mid tier cards stored in 3 ring binders full of those plastic card sleeves, and common cards stored in an "Inch Box" where they just charged you by the height of your stack. My friend and I would occasionally sneak a more expensive card out of the binder and slip it into our stack from the Inch Deck that cost $1.25.
There's no way we were the first or last to do it, but I felt kinda shitty about it for years after.
Do you think that someone sits down and makes a list of all items that need to be labeled as containing X, which is then updated each time a new food or recipe hits the store shelves?
Or is it more likely that regulators simply state that all foods for human consumption containing more than some percent by weight of X must be labeled as containing X?
If your goal is to ensure that consumers are alerted to certain ingredients for allergy or other purposes, you care very much about a product not getting labeled properly, and you don't really care if something obvious gets the label.
I'm not really sure why this is so hard to grasp...
Destroy it?
