  • The low effort, saturation advertising we get, yes. Advertising can be interesting or inventive, but not the way it's done now.

I'd quite to see a return how it was 100+ years ago; an image of the product with several paragraphs extolling the virtues. Though perhaps not on billboards by roads.

  • There's a game I played last year, the name of which I now completely forget, which I never actually finished because the final boss was such a bitch that I ended up rage quitting. Even set to easy. I'd never been so angry at a game.

Watched the ending on YouTube instead.

edit: I just remembered, it was Bramble. Beautiful game, absolutely bitch hard.

  • Now, a biryani wrap could be a goer. Though you would be wrapping starch in starch. But man, it'd be good.

  • As a Brit, Hershey chocolate is an abomination. I'm a fat fuck who looooooves chocolate, but even I couldn't stomach a bag of Kisses that someone once brought back for me. Awful shit.

And now you fuckers have bought Cadbury, even that chocolate has become dog shit. Not as disgusting, but nowhere near as good as it was.

Can Americans please stop making food. Let the world bring it to you.

  • Being unaware of pinchflat, I kinda ended up making my own.

Started off with a little app, the entirety of which was a button that, when pressed, took the link om my clipboard and downloaded the video into my Jellyfin folder. Then I got tired of having to keep it all updated across several different computers I use, so I turned it into something that runs in a docker container on my home server, that I can access through anything in my tailnet. Works beautifully.

  • Bilresa buttons from IKEA are a blessing. Cheap, (currently) work with ZigBee and ridiculously simple to set up. I can talk to Home Assistant, but never do.

  • I've got Nebula. Took 'em up on a deal on an annual sub when Tom Scott started his new series on there.

    It's...fine.

It's nice to watch channels like Mr Mobile without adverts, but channels like Not Just Bikes and Mustard already run on YT without ads. Sure, there's an ad for Nebula at the end their episodes, but it's right at the end, so is easily skipped.

Don't get me wrong, there's loads of stuff on there, but discovery isn't particularly easy, and most of it is USA-centric, which doesn't really interest me.

  • You've posted this right as I'm about to begin setting up an OpenWrt router. Thanks!

  • I was talking about the Windows UI on Mastodon the other day, particularly in reference to how I have it set to dark mode on my PC at work, but when I hit Send/Receive in Outlook I get a bright white, XP-ass-looking box pop up. Someone replied, "the older the settings boxes look, the more useful they are". And I can't disagree.

  • This is the output of dmidecode

Handle 0x0026, DMI type 9, 17 bytes System Slot Information Designation: SLOT1_M.2 Type: x4 M.2 Socket 3 Current Usage: Available Length: Long Characteristics: 3.3 V is provided PME signal is supported Bus Address: 0000:ff:1f.7

Handle 0x0027, DMI type 9, 17 bytes System Slot Information Designation: SLOT2_M.2 Type: x1 M.2 Socket 1-SD Current Usage: In Use Length: Short Characteristics: 3.3 V is provided PME signal is supported Bus Address: 0000:ff:00.0

I'm guessing the top one is the M.2 in question, on account of it saying "Available". And from what I understand having searched for some of the info on that, it should work, assuming the firmware allows for it.

  • So the currently unused slot won't work with an ethernet adapter? It's purely for storage?

  • Almost too good, I find.

I tend to have safe search off, because I'm a grown up. But it can be kind of annoying to search for a completely innocuous term, only for the image results to somehow be rammed full of people getting rammed full.

  • It doesn't look like anything to me.

  • Brb, just submitting a merge request on the Graphene git.

  • I somehow managed to factory reset my Kobo that way a few days ago. It had frozen, so I held the power button for a few seconds as I usually do when it freezes. Didn't work, so I held it a little longer.

And suddenly, BOOM, it comes back to life, shuts down, and heads into factory reset town.

I did a few swears, then set it back up, reset the sync to Grimmory, and got all my books back.

    Stoopid shit.

  • Yeah, the one and only PC on which I ever used Vista was a comically under powered laptop that my Mum bought. If it was running XP it would have been solid, but alas, it had 512mb RAM and Vista was thiiiirsty.

  • I started with Mint, then dipped into KDE Neon and Kubuntu, and these days I rock Debian on my server because I want absolutely nothing to fall over if possible. And that's how it's been for me. I SSH into it every couple of weeks to run updates, and that's about it.

Debian is great. Boring, and great.
