I've been pondering doing this to a broken iMac I've got.
It got donated to me by someone who needed to thin out his studio a bit, so it didn't cost me a penny. But I took the screen off to give it a clean out and repaste, apparently didn't tape it in place securely enough as a temporary measure, so the screen fell off. And smashed.
I did some swearing.
However, it's still a surprisingly handy spec. 3.5ghz i5, 24gb RAM and a Radeon GPU. So I've been wondering about pulling the guts and turning it into a desktop, then making it my home server to replace the 2014 Mac mini I currently use.
Until he got picked up last week, I'd not heard about him for literally years. It's been wonderful.
To be fair, it's still wonderful, because all the news has been about how miserable he is. But by this time next week I hope to have returned to my previous state.
What kinda fucks me up - though I accept that I'm not a developer, so can't profess to fully understanding all of this - is that to make apps for Apple devices you have to have a relatively new Mac that can support a version of Xcode that can in turn support the latest version of iOS.
So you have to pay them £100 a year to be a registered developer. AND you have to shell out £1500 (minimum) every few years for a new Mac in order to stay current. And then they tell you have to throw them a tithe every time your app makes any money at all, even if you're not selling your app through the App Store, or using Apple's own payment systems.
Literally the only thing about Symfonium that's lacking is having to manually scan the library when adding new music. I use Feishin on my desktops, which some manages to do it in the background.

Not all advertising is made equal, but I do acknowledge that being in the UK, my relationship to it is probably different to someone in the US.
I mean, I'm not inherently against the idea of a company telling people that they offer a product or service. As people who buy things, it's useful to us to be aware that such things exist, and while that's the case, I have no issues with companies being inventive.
But what's shitty is that the biggest, crappiest corporations naturally have the biggest budget to blanket their shitty ads all over the place.
There's an independent burger joint in my town that's pretty well regarded by local residents. It's on the end of a row, and on its side wall is an advertising board over which they have no control. For years, that board was essentially permanently rented to McDonalds, whose nearest 'restaurant' to that board was several miles away. That kind of thing can and should fuck off. It's just nasty bullying.
Advertising can be useful and relatively unobtrusive. I don't use TikTok because I can't be trusted with it, but my wife does, and they'll AirPlay it to our TV to show me ones they've favourited. Every now and then I'll see one that's pretty much an advert for a product, but presented in a way that it's actually interesting, useful information about a thing for which I could well be in the market. And to me, that's fine.
