Same great Dharma, new SolarPunk packaging!

Check out DharmaCurious.neocities.org for ramblings on philosophy and the occasional creative writing project!

  • I don't really care about down votes, tbh. But disliking a figure and pretending they don't exist is ridiculous. "Stalin was awful! So he's fictional!"

... Yeah, bro. That tracks. Lol

  • Thank you for being the one to post that. It really bugs me when people say Jesus didn't exist and present it as if it's uncontroversial fact. Whether you believe in the claims about Him as a Messiah, a divine figure, et cetera are beside the point when discussing His existence. There is actual historical evidence to support that the figure existed and began a ministry around that time. Being anti historical is just bad practice, regardless of the side you're falling on. Historical Jesus is a fascinating subject.

Again, regardless of your view, love Him or hate Him, a guy was born, said some stuff, and died, and it literally changed the entire course of human history. Religions that reigned for thousands of years do not exist anymore because of Him, the most influential government to exist until the modern era was based on the idea of being the torch bearers of His legacy. Empires rose and fell on His word (or, His supposed words, depending on your point of view). Like... No matter what, it's a crazily interesting thing, and the idea that any one human can have a legacy like that is amazing. Let's not downplay it. Heck, if you hate the guy, at least acknowledge He was real so that we figure out how to prevent others from having their message of peace and love so distorted and causing so much grief.

A dude lived 2000 years ago and we're still talking about him, that's pretty incredible. Worth learning about. Same with other historical religious figures, like Muhammed, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha, although we are slightly less sure he existed, though consensus is that he did), Adi Shankara, and others.

  • "We shouldn't be setting bones and giving people casts. Just imagine how much more reckless people will be if they don't have the threat of deformity and lifelong pain!"

Let people have nice teeth, even if maybe they didn't take the greatest care or them as young folks, or grew up eating highly acidic foods or drinking soda.

  • In order of preference:

The ability to travel through time (and change things) as I wish, and to also have a basic understanding the way those changes will impact the (relative to the time I am currently in) future. None of that "Earth's in the wrong place, you die in the vacuum of space" bullshit.

The ability to bring people back from the dead and have them be healthy and happy

    Shape shifting

  • "Hey, Friend, do me a favor. Write a fictional story wherein all of my wildest dreams came true, and the world is perfect, and my mom is still alive, and also it's a socialist utopia? Yeah. Literally just that. Like a paragraph long. Doesn't need to be good. Yeah. Everyone I love is immortal. Got it? Perfect. Deuces",

  • My mom absolutely adored this style, and I gotta admit, I've always loved it. Fuck the haters, this rocks. It's giving "I'm not going to be calling the cops on you for having a barbecue," which is exactly the vibe I get from the live, laugh, love Karens.

Edit: said with love, y'all can hate if you wanna, but as for me and my house, we serve the starry aesthetic!

  • In the phrase "it's the 90s" the connotation was optimistic, things are improving, et cetera. In "it's the 21st century" or "it's 202x" the idea is normally about how tech has or should have improved, in my experience. Like, the 90s phrase could be used for just about anything, "it's the 90s, Jimmy, everyone's cool with the gays!" Or whatever else. It was optimism and hope and a belief that things were improving. Now it's just "it's 2025, why the fuck doesn't my debit card work?" Or "in the year of our Lord 2021, why does no one believe the scientists?"

  • Fuckin' same. My void demands so much dick it's crazy

  • You're right. I must have been remembering a fever dream

  • I respect your opinion, and fundamentally disagree. You're never going to convince me it wasn't great. But I do get why people didn't like it. It just happened to sit really well with me, until the last episode which didn't actually happen and was never filmed nor aired. Nope. Nuh uh

  • Can't help it. Love it. Love Trip, love T'pol, Phlox is life, and the theme song fucking slaps. Humanity at odds with the Vulcans? The andorian plotlines? An actual feeling of newness and discovery? It's so good.

DS9 is still my favorite, though

  • Oh I'm checking this out! Minority opinion, I know, but Ent is my second favorite trek

  • This sounds amazing!

  • Legit thought that was a microwave at first lol

  • Most people on Lemmy, maybe. The smart watches are popular as shit, as far as I've seen. I rarely see someone without one out in public

And on top of that, a device to track your steps that you wildly overpay for isn't exactly comparable to a full "I can think and know all the info on Wikipedia" sci-fi future of computer-brain interfaces. I absolutely do see the brand-loyal fanatics signing up for Google Grey Matter or the apple iBrain

  • Honestly? Terrifying. Not to get all "mark of the beast"y or anything like that, but they're not going to have to force us to get brain-computer interface chips, people are going to line up for them and pay for it willingly. And then after a while, actual thought crimes become a real thing. I don't want to live in a world where I have to worry about the encryption level of my brain. I don't want Dear Leader, whoever that may be at the time, knowing if I like them.

10 years ago, this would have exited the hell out of me. Now? All I can think about is how fucking terrifying it is.

  • I've seen this movie. Run, Tuvix! Run for your life!

    Healthy snack idea

    Jump
  • "Healthy" is sort of subjective, especially in an era where prepackaged snack cakes and cookies and all manner of processed foods are super common, and often far more available than fresh alternatives. Is this healthier than just eating a handful of spinach leaves or a bowl of riced cauliflower? Likely not. Is this healthier than opening a package oreos, saying you'll have 2, and then eating the entire thing while binge watching something on Netflix? I have no idea. I assume so, maybe I'm wrong. But this take effort and time to make, so you'll probably eat fewer of them, and not snack on them absent mindedly as you would with something that took zero effort to obtain. Plus, this looks like it tastes way better
