  • Generally "2.4 GHz" refers specifically to a proprietary protocol that the manufacturer invented - so yes, it can save battery (and be lower latency) assuming they designed it well. And yes, there's probably no standard way to get the battery status from a USB dongle like there is from Bluetooth, so if the Windows drivers can do it, then it's their own secret recipe.

  • The very moment I turned 18 was the moment my high school senior prom ended. I only went because of the timing and location (a nice tourist spot I hadn't been to before), I didn't have a date.

    Most of the rest of the year was spent graduating high school and then starting community college. Still lived at my parents' house. I did end up with a girlfriend eventually, but that didn't last long and at the time we were both conservative so it wasn't a physical relationship.

    I was of course a geek then and I'm a geek now, very into computers and gaming (more games then than now).

When I am teaching students in our intro class that everyone takes it once regardless of skill, I can always tell when someone has skated as a kid (or done other sports like skiing) even if it's been decades for them - it's just much easier to return to than to start from scratch like I did.

  • Roller skating. In that community my skill level is nothing special. But it's not a common hobby to have at all these days (at least where I am) for the average person.
