  • Well, in particular, my Mum was cremated as per her wishes, and that's what my Dad plans too, but I don't begrudge the coffin or the cars - none of us were in a fit state to drive and we weren't about to shove her in the incinerator in a body bag out from someone's boot. I don't know what else you wanted us to do instead. She has a little stone in the kerb lining the path to the crematorium, because we didn't want there to be nothing physical left after we scattered her ashes. The funeral directors were very good at their job, very useful to have around, and a great help on a difficult day. All your contempt for having a ceremony and making an event out of it, by contrast, not so helpful. If you ever meet anyone on real life who's grieving, please don't talk to them like you vent online.

  • Yup.

  • Fun fact: 1 mph = 1.6 km/h, so if your speeds 16, 32, 64,128 were in km/h, you'd have 10, 20, 40 and 80mph.

  • Everyone gets together for an event that's seen as important, comforting things are said, then everyone goes and eats together and tells each other stories about the person they lost. Seems like a great way to go about it to me.

  • I heard a bunch of right wing criticism of The Force Awakens, and it was mainly "A WOMAN AND A BLACK MAN? HOW CAN I EVEN CONCENTRATE ON THE FILM WHEN THEY'RE INSULTING ME WITH A BLACK MAN AND A WOMAN, IT'S SO FALSE AND FAKE."

So yeah, pretty racist and misogynist.

  • Sounds like him. Like most bullies, he's strong on the bravado and weak on the bravery.

  • On amazon, sometimes I want to see the four different colours something is available in, but it's the exact same image colourised four different ways, so you all you know is that it doesn't look quite like the picture.

  • In the shower is where I politely turn down women imaginarily hitting on me, on the grounds that I'm married irl.

  • That is one pretty cat.

  • I genuinely don't get where I gave you the impression I was asking a question.

  • Uh, that you sound like you have a metered subscription to some commercial LLM and you've thought about your usage. No need to be defensive. It's cool and trendy to pay someone to outsource your thinking and find new ways every day for your employer to need your intervention less.

  • It sounds like there isn't any conceivable scenario in which you see the cheating as the fault of the cheater. Please make sure you inform existing and new partners of your policy, and be sure to also explain that if you don't discuss your relationship that's always their fault too.

  • You sound like you have a subscription

  • Sorry, I see that as a cookie wall, not a pay wall.

So yes, you have to accept cookies to read the article, but you don't have to give them your credit card info, and American sites just set cookies anyway.

You should use a browser that lets you burn tabs' cookies if you're worried about it. (That's what I do.) Alternatively get an ad blocker. My browser does its own ad blocking. It lets "sponsored" articles through, and similarly spoken ads included by the author in podcasts and videos but I don't see Google's ads on YouTube with it.

Browser fingerprinting is real and google and other advertisers track you whether you allow cookies or not.

  • Maybe try getting a new dog first.

  • Even if she wasn't just a crapbucket of a human being and was unhappy for some reason, she decided to become acrapbucket of a human being when she decided to cheat instead of talking about it. Not talking about the problems you assumed existed is immature in the first place. Stop victim blaming.

  • It breaks convention to solve an entirely nonexistent problem.
