  • That one big hurdle is "What's the fucking point"? The number of people who need to get halfway around the world six hours faster and who are willing to pay ten times as much for the privilege is vanishingly small, and frankly, that's not a problem that needs solving.

I mean Boeing can't even build subsonic airplanes any more and Airbus. . .well, they have "Bus" in their name. Who needs a supersonic bus?

  • Pros of MoCA:

    -Easy to implement

-Don't have to run new lines

    -Reliable

    -Up to 2.5gbps

    Cons:

-Each run needs an moderately expensive adapter on either side, which also needs power

-Cable management at the endpoints can get messy

If you have one or two endpoints where you can tuck away some boxes, MoCA's probably fine. If you want to wire up every room in your house, buy a roll of cat-6 and bite the bullet

  • How much to not meet him?

  • There's no legitimate reason for ICE to withhold information from the public. There's no legitimate reason for any government agency to withhold information from the public. You can't have a legitimate government if the government is allowed to keep secrets from the populace. This is like baseline shit. We can't even start arguing about left and right until we agree that the people in power can't keep secrets from the people who put them in power.

  • It's like a Chromebook, but for Windows. Only it doesn't run Windows. Please buy our garbage.

  • This is an obvious marketing exercise to promote their noai subdomain.

  • Because in the USA, private individuals don't have meaningful access to the legal system. Realistically, the best you could possibly hope for in a case like this would be a settlement in a class action where every Windows 10 user who's willing to jump through a bunch of hoops ends up with a seven dollar check in half a decade.

  • They've really painted themselves into a corner with their AI investments. It's starting to look like the total addressable market is a small fraction of what they'd need to break even on their atrociously ill-advised investments into the sector, and now they're becoming increasingly desperate to shoehorn a technology that nobody wants into everything they can.

Literally everybody who has an inkling of an idea of what's going on in the AI space knows how this ends, but somehow the board and c-staff at MSFT are not counted amongst the inkling havers. In a few years they're going to have to write off countless billions that they've wasted on this idiocy and nobody will be surprised but them.

  • I mean no, but that's probably because Spock mind melted it out of my brain too

  • Okay, so there's two shows from the nineties about shopping malls in space. . .

  • We're doomed. If 51% of the country has decided, based on a neverending stream of lies, that we should all die rather than receive basic health care, then there's really nothing much left to argue about. America has has decided it would rather commit suicide than acknowledge that there are people who DO know what they're talking about and actually listen to them.

That's it. We're done. We're all gonna die of some easily preventable plague because we didn't fucking ostracize these idiots twenty years ago. The country is now run by the people who actually believe the comical lies the GOP used to tell to keep the idiots compliant. I don't think you can come back from that.

  • TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name @lemmy.world

He was more than a hero. He was a union man.

  • Nobody gets in trouble for false advertising these days, and if they did, the consequences would be negligible.

  • He stuck around this long and even though he's Bill fucking Shatner, it's hard to say he doesn't deserve one last ride. I just wish he'd played it more gracefully these last 30 or so years.

  • It's not illegal to download books without yourself offering them for upload. What's illegal is when you feed those books into your reality devouring content monster and it outputs all that copyrighted content in a slightly different order and you profit off that content vomit.

  • In case you were wondering, they're saying that Apple doesn't outsource its design. It outsources its fabrication like nobody's business. I always kinda thought that's what outsourcing meant, but apparently there are companies that neither design nor fabricate their products. I guess their core competency is just taking the money.

  • He's not pushing "America First". He's just saying "America First". He has no intention, should he somehow come to power again, on acting on it. He won't act meaningfully on anything he says.

We know this because this has happened before. He ran on hating brown people and queer people, but when he became president in spite of the fact that he got significantly fewer votes than his opponent, the only meaningful thing he did was massively increase the deficit and give that money to rich people, to the tune of twenty thousand dollars from every man, woman, and child in the country. And also sell state secrets to comparatively minor regional powers in the east. And we mustn't forget the million-plus excess deaths he presided over because he seems to legitimately think that things he doesn't understand can't be understood so just say whatever and let the corpses fall where they will.

The news outlets who report on this shit know this, but as far as I can tell they don't want to report on any of it because they're worried idiots will be mad at them. We need a better way, but before we can have a better way, we need to smite this movement. Nothing good can possibly come of it for anybody but Trump himself. Even his followers only stand to lose.

  • New poll just dropped showing him down by 3 in Iowa(!) I hope he never gets another good night's sleep as long as he lives.

  • I can't help thinking that if you're running for president and you decide, because reasons, that you want to climb into a big truck on camera, you should maybe get in on the driver's side. And not use a garbage truck. And not put your campaign slogan on the side of a garbage truck. And grasp the door handle firmly on your fist attempt while staying upright.

And also, just don't. But what do i know?
