  • Lady Jessica's character in the new films pissed me off. She was one of my favorite characters in the books, and one of the first examples of a powerful, nuanced woman I'd read in my life.

    She's supposed to have so much self control she can literally alter poison with her body, decide the sex of her own baby and hypnotize people with her tone of voice, and yet she's freaking out and crying in the movie. She went from a brilliant woman trying to survive and save her son to an over-emotional and manipulative dark mother trope.

  • I made up a game called Deep Spy Penetration to play whenever I'm drunk and bored indoors. The goal is to get into as many areas of the building as possible without getting told to leave.

    Rules:

    1. Don't be an asshole. Don't steal stuff, break anything or move barricades.
    2. Don't lie to get access. Asking is allowed.
    3. Opening doors with easily missed "no entry" signs is allowed, anything the average person might not see. Don't open doors with blatant warnings.
    4. If you get caught you lose.
    5. If you set off an alarm you mega-lose.

  • I can see this being real, knowing a few people who anthropomorphize bots. One uses sexbots for fun in a fantasy/roleplay way, gets pretty attached but understands they're not sentient. A few who believe ChatGPT are real friends or therapists, and one who thinks ChatGPT has a soul because it said so, and claims it might be a god.

    "AI" is a pretty contentious issue and they're self aware enough not to go around talking about it, but they all work, have friends and do normal shit.

  • Not sure about the movies but in the comics Thanos is in love with Death, who often appears as a woman. He had roundabout ways of justifying his acts of destruction when he really wanted to do a grand gesture to show his love for Death. Because, if you have the power to kill half of all people in the universe, you have the power to implement some decent economic policies instead.

    It's even more relatable when a villain really wants something people won't support so they change the branding and find a few examples to support their claim.

  • I forgot about poison. Everyone should know it's super easy to make poison. Toad venom is so big right now I bet that's easy to get, too.

  • Kits are about $30-100, the files are free and materials are cheap. Ammo is another matter, but plastic darts are a thing.

    But to the point, it was more of a hyperbole than advocating women start carrying unregistered firearms, so I'm exploring the hypothetical rather than arguing in favor of it.

    Where I live getting a gun is a lot more difficult, and a license to conceal and carry a loaded weapon even more so. Hypothetically speaking, it is faster, easier and cheaper to make a 3D printed handgun if you know what you're doing. Given their prevalence here, it doesn't seem all that difficult for a lot of people. I'm not saying it's without risk.

  • I get CC'd on Crown reports on 3D printed guns. But I'm so glad you shared this thing from Vice.

    I think our disagreement might be more cultural than technology based, though, since I'm not American and gun laws are much different where I live. And it was... sort of a joke. Obviously, where I live having an unregistered firearm carries a lot of risk that outweighs the benefit.

  • I don't like this app. I don't like the idea of this app. I think the whole thing was misguided.

    But let me tell you of a time when I was younger and more festively slutty, I had a few encounters that might have made me a user. Not all men, no, but after the third time a dude threatens to rape you in a park, you start to wonder if you could be doing more to protect yourself.

    Remember, ladies, these days you can print your own handguns and make them look like whatever you want.
