  • Unironically, that’s the future scam Altman & friends desire

  • Indeed. Using AES-ECB has been considered bad practice for over a decade. Modern alternatives such as AES-GCM or AES-CCM are readily available for most popular programming languages

  • Same here. Out of all my public facing repos, they grabbed the group projects from when me & friends were first learning to code 👀

  • Hot take, but If it's old and/or no longer useful to you, then I would consider selling or trading it in. Apple products hold value better than a lot of other electronics in the same category and you might as well just take the cash and put it towards other homelab upgrades

  • The hackers might as well start charging a monthly recurring subscription

  • I used to have a bunch of scattered markdown & txt files containing disparate notes which quickly became unmanageable. Now I run wiki.js (using the linuxserver image) and document everything in there. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done 🤷‍♂️

  • soulseek & slskd are absolutely goated for music. Always surprised me how more people don’t know about it…

  • It's just a matter of time before they convert the "Lifetime Pass" to a subscription. Absolutely nothing prevents them from following the Adobe playbook and declaring that they'll be dropping support/updates for the "lifetime edition". Future feature updates & security fixes will then be gated behind a $29.99 monthly subscription

  • Assuming your server is indeed public facing, try endlessh-go. It’s a tarpit that wastes time/resources of bots/scanners/skiddies

  • Plex is a series C for-profit company and is 100% beholden to its investors who expect a handsome return on investment; the enshittification & price hikes are literally guaranteed to continue. Existing users can, and should expect to be squeezed for profits until they have nothing left to give

  • I do this too; I changed the actual port to something random and run endlessh-go on 22 to tarpit the skiddies
