My theory is that: With social media people are exposed to more and more stuff, specially bad stuff due to algorithms, and when things happens, you usually feel a need to form an opinion on them. The quicker you have the form an opinion, the more nuance you lose, if you don't form an opinion now, the next thing will arrive and you will be outdated. People are having to choose quantity over quality when it comes to their opinions.
Again this is based on not much and utterly unscientific but I think it makes sense kinda.
if aliens were real, i'd hope they have really cool non-warfare technology that we can steal. hopefully they haven't invented space copyright or trademark equivalents.
I would be afraid of using it, forgetting I used it, and then using it again, in an endless loop. Other than that, I think society would change tremendously, and with change, specially regarding something as fundamental as memory, comes chaos.
Maybe I'd use it to forget some awkward, embarrassing moments, but I don't know, I'm not that worried about them since I imagine everyone else has probably forgotten about those by now, I'd be worried that by purposefully forgetting crucial life-changing moments I'd be, like, losing a part of myself.
One of my last names was severely misspelled a long time ago so I doubt anyone else not from my family has it, and I wouldn't change it. As for the other last name, it's kinda common so no I wouldn't change it either.
It depends on why they want to destroy Earth, but honestly I'd probably just live my alien life and think that the human life I thought I had was some kind of weird déjà vu.

I went out of my way to repeatedly grind and kill this late game boss during early game, just give me my reward for not following the stupid linear progression
Oh, The Stanley Parable satirizes these kinds of useless achievements. There's an achievement for clicking on a door 10 times and it turns into a whole journey in-game, as a meta joke of course.

I would look for psychiatric help and go over memories of that person with other people. I'd probably wonder if they were real or would also disappear.
Edit: oh shit i just remembered that i confuse things that happened in dreams with real life things sometimes. maybe this would be a more extreme version of that? dreaming a whole person. wow
