I am a human man. I like to do human man things. The activities I participate in most frequently are sleeping and eating. Unfortunately this inevitably also leads to pooping, but we all do what we must, right?

What else can I write about??..... I love gaming. I also love my family, but slightly less than gaming. Oh, also memes, love memes; these would probably come in second place actually.

  • Good keyboard. This hybrid setup of sitting at a desktop to use a tablet in this way for one handed typing on a keyboard seems like insanity to me..... But you do you. Hope the crisps are good.

  • Came into the comments section to see how others are answering a question I have no idea what to do with.

  • I played around a lot with pinning apps protect the rest of the phone from my son when he wanted to use an app. My genius of a son somehow always found a way around and managed to access other parts of the phone (Samsung). I never relied on app pinning as rock solid security.

  • There's no accounting for taste and there's no explaination for strong taste preferences.

Disgust is a strange thing though. It varies a lot between people. There's an overwhelming psychological component along with your past experience. My wife remembers seeing cow parts hanging in a butchers as a teenager and the smell of raw meat, and it has snowballed from there. She reacts really badly to the smell of red meat now. Will never touch red meat. Eats some chicken, but is going off that as well. She then became health obsessed as an adult and has slowly developed an aversion to seeing oil (whether from deep frying or naturally released from food). She also hates the smell of eggs and will only eat them if imperceptibly cooked into something. Interestingly she will still binge on sugar and salt. There's a strong body type preference on top of that. She's not anorexic, but I can see the steps a person might go through to get to anorexia.

I'm the opposite. I'll try anything. Cooked insects. Horse/camel/ostrich meat. Exotic fruit. I'll give anything a shot. I actually try to sample as many things as possible.

The human brain is a strange thing 🤷‍♂️

  • That sucks. Good luck.

If someone is happily asexual, then I guess it's not a problem. Some people might feel no desire and carry on with life not feeling like they miss anything because "there's nothing to miss". But suffering with it or feeling deprived sucks.

  • I've recently got a new mini PC and am surprised by the milage I've gotten out of a Radeon 780M. AMD is doing alright with integrated graphics.

  • This is the way. Write a basic bullet points or headings only. Write a very basic skeleton. Then just start writing the body. Write any shit that comes to your mind. Don't worry too much about it not being perfect, or about formatting or anything. Get a rough draft started. The important part is to just start writing something. If you can't think or something good to write, then write some approximate shit and highlight it to know to come back later. Absolute shit on a page is much better than paralysis and procrastination.

  • You can make the conflict come from an external source. Works very well in Bob's Burgers.

  • No number, but a long indicator bar that has good resolution to show it go down proportionally. Works well for the EV car. Works well for the phone. Works better for my monkey brain to appear like a fuel gauge without a number.

If it's going to be a tiny icon like this then just put a number on it.

  • Tom Scott - I know he's well loved and hasn't done anything bad, but he's too "British" for me and something makes me cringe with his videos and I can't quite definitively identify what it is.

I haven't ditched them yet but in less and less interested in the content LTT and Veritasium make and they seem to be heading for dropping off my subscription list.

Switch and click - when she pivoted away from mechanical keyboards then I wasn't really interested in her new content.

  • This is the shit state of the world now. Everything gets accused of being AI by someone. The AI tech bros have well and truly won. They've poisoned everything.

  • This message doesn't really land well at all in the way this comic is made. Another post does a much better job of undermining the comment by comparing to a meth addict.

  • I love the artwork in Pepper and Carrot. I've got the books downloaded to my comic reader and am looking forward to getting to read them.

  • Use block lists. I've blacklisted tons of keywords. Mostly political. If you're looking at an unfiltered feed then you're going to have a bad time.

  • This has "big government" written all over it. You can't convince me otherwise.

  • It's always good to take some "me time".

  • Joplin self hosting seemed like a pain and it works perfectly well synchronising via WebDAV. I'd be interested in hearing how you get on.

I've been using Actual Budget for a couple of years and only recently started getting into slightly more functions than basic expenses recording. It's really good to be able to have it do more as needed.

  • I host Tiny Tiny RSS.

    • my list of subscriptions and categorisations are centralised so I don't have to set this up on any other device. I can access this on my phone, tablet and PC.
    • it synchronises read/unread stories across devices so I don't have to keep sifting through the same articles I've seen.
    • I've got a long list of blacklisted words. I don't want to hear about sports news, celebrity gossip, USA-centric news, "he said/she said" bullshit from social media that mainstream news seems to love to report, etc. Now I can set up my blacklist in one place centrally.
    • there are a lot of great apps that will access the server RSS feed. I'm never actually going to to TTRSS browser page.

The point isn't to download content to the server at all. It's to keep the centralised list. I host opodsync (Gpodder podcast server) for the same reason.

  • Anyone who feels compelled to switch someone else to Linux... Prepare yourself for providing a lifetime of tech support. If someone hasn't mentally gotten to the point of doing the transition for themselves, then someone will need to iron out the wrinkles for them.
