  • Depending on your state. In mine, there was a single candidate. That's a primary in the same way the USSR had elections. If you lived in one of the states that had two candidates in 2020 then good for you. I didn't.

  • That's absolutely not true. I've been voting since 2012 and the only presidential primary I've voted in that had more than one candidate was the Hillary-Bernie primary. That's the only one.

  • Fair enough, but I think when the average person says "luxury apparel" they specificity mean Veblen goods distributed by companies that intentionally hamstring their own logistics in order to manipulate the price point regardless of quality. At that point you're just selling deliberately manufactured exclusion as a commodity. The one-off artisan bootmaker is to luxury goods what the single family farm that hugs their cow every morning is to industrial agriculture.

  • Yeah I whine about it a lot too, the point is that there is literally no action an American can take that's correct. Do something? Rash, juvenile, doomed to fail, too violent, they should have large protests and walkouts instead. Protest in the street? Too civil, pointless, also doomed to fail, why aren't Americans taking up arms by the millions to kill the government. Every action is the wrong one.

  • Honestly, I'm probably not the best person to ask. I grew up in an area that was fairly rural, but very far north, so people used the term "red eye gravy" very loosely to refer to biscuit gravy made with strong black coffee. Ham may or may not have been involved, and often it was made with a roux made of bacon fat. Generally the biscuits where I grew up were drop biscuits. I've been vegan for more than a decade now so it's been a loooooooong time since I made it myself and I usually just used left over bacon grease, although my understanding is that authentic red eye gravy is generally made with country ham drippings, that's correct.

  • To add to this, there are drop biscuits and flaky biscuits (the southern kind, seen above). Drop biscuits can be like a much softer, more savory scone, but flaky biscuits are much lighter and layered, almost like a savory pastry often served with sausage gravy or red eye gravy.
